ABSTRACT The importance of early diagnosis of inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs) is well known, as it allows early intervention to prevent or reduce complications and improve prognosis, since many of these disorders are treatable. However, diagnosis can still be delayed, and many patients remain undiagnosed. Reducing diagnosis delays is a primary goal

Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis in the South American-Caribbean region: An epidemiological overview
Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCLs) comprise 13 hereditary neurodegenerative pathologies of very low frequency that affect individuals of all ages around the world. All NCLs share a set of symptoms that are similar to other diseases.

Epidemiology of progressive intellectual and neurological deterioration in UK children
This study of PIND in UK children was carried out via the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit from 1997 to 2024. It identified six cases of vCJD. 2367 children had other diagnoses explain their deterioration. There were 259 other diseases in the diagnosed group.

ABSTRACT Inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) encompass a diverse and expanding group of rare diseases caused by genetic disruptions mainly in metabolic enzymes and transporters. Clinical diagnosis of IMDs presents significant challenges due to phenotypic heterogeneity, nonspecific symptoms, and the limited scope of current targeted biochemical assays ...

ABSTRACT Natural‐history datasets have become pivotal for drug development and for shaping clinical‐practice guidelines in rare diseases, yet many lysosomal storage disorders would benefit from deep phenotyping and modern analytic methods. Our objective was to integrate the past decade of genomic, cellular, treatment‐outcome, and regulatory advances ...

Appressoria are specialized penetration structures for many plant pathogenic fungi, demanding precise cell cycle control. This study unveils MoMtg1 as a transcriptional repressor of MoSwi6, orchestrating MoCYC1 expression during turgor‐driven cell cycle progression to enable appressorium‐mediated penetration. Moreover, a small‐molecule inhibitor ZS1619
