Particle clogging mechanisms in hyporheic exchange with coupled lattice Boltzmann discrete element simulations

open access: yesThe Physics of Fluids
The clogging of a stream bed has a significant impact on the exchange of water between a river and groundwater, known as hyporheic exchange. Clogging issues in orifices influenced by fluid flow have long been a concern, particularly in understanding ...

Formation mechanism of clogging of dredge slurry under vacuum preloading by using digital image technology

open access: yesCanadian geotechnical journal (Print), 2021
Vacuum preloading combined with prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) system has been widely used to improve the soft clay with high water content. Clogging is usually formed around the PVDs during the vacuum preloading, impeding the propagation of the ...

Clogging of permeable pavements in semi-arid areas

open access: yes, 2010
Urban development and consequently covering more areas by the impervious surfaces, has led to the decrease in natural process of rainfall infiltration and as a result deduction in ground water recharge.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
