Pet and Stray Dogs’ Contribution to Zoonotic Transmission Pathways: A Bibliometric Review

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Based on a large‐scale bibliometric dataset, domestic dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) emerge as the most frequently cited host species in the context of zoonoses, being mentioned in at least 10% of publications for nearly a quarter of the pathogens recognized as zoonotic to humans.

Mitochondrial and nuclear ribosomal DNA dataset supports that Paramphistomum leydeni (Trematoda: Digenea) is a distinct rumen fluke species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: Rumen flukes parasitize the rumen and reticulum of ruminants, causing paramphistomiasis. Over the years, there has been considerable debate as to whether Paramphistomum leydeni and Paramphistomum cervi are the same or distant species. METHODS:

Loffler`s Syndrome Associated with Clonorchis Sinensis Infestation

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Internal Medicine, 2003
In 1932, Loffler described a syndrome of self-limiting, transient pulmonary infiltrates associated with peripheral blood eosinophilia and mild pulmonary symptoms. A number of conditions are related to pulmonary eosinophilia or pulmonary infiltration with eosinophilia.

A schistosome [beta] subunit remodels inactivation of a calcium channel _via_ an N-terminal polyacidic motif [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The beta subunit of high voltage-activated Ca (Cav) channels targets the pore forming [alpha]~1~ subunit to the plasma membrane and defines the biophysical phenotype of the Cav channel complex. Cav channel inactivation following activation and opening is

Gastropod-Borne Helminths: A Look at the Snail-Parasite Interplay. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
More than 300 million people suffer from a range of diseases caused by gastropod-borne helminths, predominantly flatworms and roundworms, whose life cycles are characterized by a diversified ecology and epidemiology. Despite the plethora of data on these

Evolutionary View of Liver Pathology

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 17, Issue 12, December 2024.
ABSTRACT Evolutionary medicine emerged in the late twentieth century, integrating principles of natural selection and adaptation with the health sciences. Today, with a rapidly widening gap between the biology of Homo sapiens and its environment, maladaptation or maladaptive disorders can be detected in almost all diseases, including liver dysfunction.
