A Systematic Search for Short-period Close White Dwarf Binary Candidates Based on Gaia EDR3 Catalog and Zwicky Transient Facility Data

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
Galactic short-period close white dwarf binaries (CWDBs) are important objects for space-borne gravitational-wave (GW) detectors in the millihertz frequency bands.

‘Swinging Dipoles’ in Magnetic Close Binary Stars [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1987
AbstractThe recently discovered phenomena in polars - Magnetic Close Binary Stars (MCBS), are discussed. Asynchronous MCBS are on the ‘propeller stage’ (which is analogous to the investigated one for neutron stars), and are synchronizing during ts ≲ 103 yr, being during this stage rapidly evolving, mass ejecting systems.

Preparation and characterization of renal cell peptides from fetal rats for their antitumor activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study aimed to prepare renal cells (RCs) from fetal rats which were digested by enzymes. Candidate peptides RCPs were characterized by capillary HPLC and MS and their bioactivity was predicted using peptideranker. The predicted top 10 bioactive peptides were synthesized.

The Crucial Role of Third Body in Formation and Evolution of Contact Binary Systems: Evidence from CY Ari and IK Lyn

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
CY Ari and IK Lyn are two eclipsing binary systems that share the same spectral type but exhibit significantly different metallicities. Based on the Wilson–Devinney (W-D) method, the first photometric solutions are obtained by analyzing the new complete ...

Carbon-enhanced metal-poor stars: a window on AGB nucleosynthesis and binary evolution. II. Statistical analysis of a sample of 67 CEMP-$s$ stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Many observed CEMP stars are found in binary systems and show enhanced abundances of $s$-elements. The origin of the chemical abundances of these CEMP-$s$ stars is believed to be accretion in the past of enriched material from a primary star in the AGB ...

Density and Figure of Close Binary Stars [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1901
WHEN One star revolves round another in an orbit of which the plane is coincident, or nearly so, with the line of sight, an eclipse of one star by the other will take place every revolution. We have, in such circumstances, the well-known phenomenon of Algol variation.

Radial Velocity Studies of Southern Close Binary Stars. II. Spring/Summer Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Radial velocity measurements and sine-curve fits to the orbital velocity variations are presented for 14 close binary stars, S Ant, TT Cet, TW Cet, AA Cet, RW Dor, UX Eri, YY Eri, BV Eri, CT Eri, SZ Hor, AD Phe, TY Pup, HI Pup, and TZ Pyx. All are double-

Identification of amino acids essential for angulin‐1/3 binding of the tricellular tight junction binder, angubindin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Angubindin‐1 binds angulin‐1/‐3 at tricellular tight junctions, enhancing intestinal macromolecule permeation. Alanine scanning identified six essential residues (L562, L598, E638, V640, Y643, and K644) of angubindin‐1 critical for binding to angulin‐1/‐3 and permeation‐enhancing activity, providing insights for the development of targeted noninvasive ...

Close binary stars in the solar-age Galactic open cluster M67 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present multi-colour time-series CCD photometry of the solar-age galactic open cluster M67 (NGC 2682). About 3600 frames spread over 28 nights were obtained with the 1.5 m Russian-Turkish and 1.2 m Mercator telescopes.

Serum Neurofilament Light Chain in Multiple Sclerosis: Superiority of Age‐ and BMI‐Corrected Z Scores/Percentiles Over Absolute Cutoff Values for Prediction of Treatment Response

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Prognostication of disease course and prediction of treatment response in multiple sclerosis is an unmet need. We compared the performance of serum neurofilament light chain Z scores (age‐ and BMI‐adjusted) with absolute concentrations for the prediction of response to disease‐modifying therapy.
