Targeted Restoration of the Microbial Tryptophan Oxidative Pathway Ameliorates Autism‐Like Behavioral and Synaptic Deficits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is associated with gut microbiota dysbiosis, yet the contribution of specific microbial metabolic pathways remains unclear. Reanalysis of a public ASD cohort revealed reduced functional potential in microbial tryptophan oxidative metabolism.

Modeling Growth Kinetics, Interspecies Cell Fusion, and Metabolism of a Clostridium acetobutylicum/Clostridium ljungdahlii Syntrophic Coculture

open access: yesmSystems, 2021
Clostridium acetobutylicum and Clostridium ljungdahlii grown in a syntrophic culture were recently shown to fuse membranes and exchange cytosolic contents, yielding hybrid cells with significant shifts in gene expression and growth phenotypes.

Gut Microbial Release of Ferulic Acid From Germinated Quinoa Alleviates Obesity‐Associated Cognitive Impairment by Activating Hippocampal Mitophagy Associated with PINK1/Parkin Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Liberation of ferulic acid by gut microbial feruloyl esterase mediates cognitive enhancement of germinated quinoa (GQF) on obese mice. Ferulic acid enriched in GQF is released by gut microbes Roseburia hominis and R. intestinalis and subsequently mediates the neuroprotective effects of GQF on obesity‐induced cognitive decline by activating hippocampal ...

Programmable Encapsulation Enables On‐Demand Proliferation of Therapeutic Bacteria for Potent Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A programmable encapsulation technology is developed to reduce bacterial immunogenicity and proliferation after systemic administration. The cross‐linked polymer networks around individual bacteria enable immunogenic shielding and permit selective proliferation in tumors, allowing the bacteria to convert tumor‐accumulated ammonia into L‐arginine and ...

Chimeric IL‐6/4R‐LL37 Engineered Macrophages Achieve Synchronized Inflammation Control and Antimicrobial Defence in Sepsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Engineered macrophages programmed in situ by LNP‐delivered IL‐6/4 fusion and LL37 mRNAs simultaneously dampen cytokine storm, promote M2‐like repair, and enhance direct bacterial killing in sepsis. This combinatorial strategy restores T cell and macrophage function, lowers organ bacterial burden, and improves survival, highlighting a precision, host ...

Effects of Inoculation of LAB on Fermentation Pattern and Clostridia Spores in Easily Ensilable Grass Silages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Clostridia can damage the protein quality of grass silages. They cause high gas losses during the fermentation process and quality problems in dairy products like semi-hard cheeses.

F‐Type Pyocin Versus Phage λ Tail: Conserved Hub, Divergent Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Near‐atomic cryo‐EM structures of a Gram‐negative F‐type pyocin reveal a conserved tail tip architecture shared with bacteriophage λ together with a previously unrecognized side‐fiber attachment mode. These findings provide new insight into tailocin assembly and host recognition and establish a structural framework for engineering precision ...

CLOSTRIDIA IN SOIL OF THE ANTARCTICA

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Medical Science and Biology, 1975
From the soil in the area around the Syowa Station, the East Ongul Island, the Antarctica, a total of 193 strains of clostridia were isolated and identified. It was surprising that the soil samples taken from the places which were considered to be scarcely contaminated by human beings and animals contained many clostridia.
