Prevention Of Swarming Of Clostridium Septicum [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 1972
Summary A CI. septicum O antiserum, prepared in the rabbit against the two serological groups of Moussa, inhibits the swarming growth of CI. septicum in plate cultures. Advantage may be taken of this in the separation of other organisms from mixtures with CI. septicum and in performing surface viable counts with CI. septicum.

A toxin hunter in the microworld of bacteria: a project on novel inhibitors against bacterial AB5 toxins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016

Antimicrobial prescribing guidelines for horses in Australia

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, Volume 103, Issue 12, Page 781-889, December 2025.
The growing problem of antimicrobial resistance also affects equine veterinarians with increasing frequency. Antimicrobial stewardship and responsible prescribing are essential for a future in which effective antimicrobials are available, as it is unlikely that new antimicrobials will become available for use in horses.

A Systematic Review of Cases of Meningitis in the Absence of Cerebrospinal Fluid Pleocytosis on Lumbar Puncture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Definitive diagnosis of meningitis is made by analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) culture or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) obtained from a lumbar puncture (LP), which may take days.

Alterations and mechanistic insights of gut microbiota and its metabolites in type 2 diabetes mellitus and Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 2, Issue 3, September 2025.
This narrative review uniquely addresses how gut microbiota‐derived metabolites mediate overlapping pathologies of insulin resistance, neuroinflammation, and amyloidogenesis in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and Alzheimer's disease (AD), proposing a framework for dual therapeutic targeting.

Cryo-EM structure of lysenin pore elucidates membrane insertion by an aerolysin family protein [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Lysenin from the coelomic fluid of the earthworm Eisenia fetida belongs to the aerolysin family of small β-pore-forming toxins (β-PFTs), some members of which are pathogenic to humans and animals. Despite efforts, a high-resolution structure of a channel

The estrobolome: Estrogen‐metabolizing pathways of the gut microbiome and their relation to breast cancer

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 157, Issue 4, Page 599-613, 15 August 2025.
Abstract Increasing evidence links the gut microbiome to carcinogenesis. Disruptions in estrogen regulation by the estrobolome—gut microbiota with estrogen‐related functions—may promote breast cancer. However, precise information on estrobolome targets and their underlying mechanisms is limited. This review identifies relevant targets for measuring the

Clostridium septicum growth from a total knee arthroplasty associated with intestinal malignancy: a case report

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2012
Background Previous reports of infection with Clostridium septicum have identified an unexpected association with concurrent malignancy. The reported rate of associated malignancy has been found to be as high as 81 percent.

Diagnosis and successful treatment of open pyometra in a wild European brown hare (Lepus europaeus)

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 2, June 2025.
Abstract This case report describes an open pyometra in a wild adult female hare (Lepus europaeus) that was rescued in the Umbria countryside (Italy) during mid‐January. The clinical signs observed included anorexia and a mucopurulent to haemorrhagic discharge from the vulva.
