Clostridium hathewayi sp. nov., from Human Faeces

Systematic and Applied Microbiology, 2001
A strictly anoxic, Gram-positive, sporeforming, rod-shaped bacterium was isolated from a chemostat inoculated with human faeces. The bacterium used carbohydrate as fermentable substrates, producing acetate, ethanol, carbon dioxide and hydrogen as the major products of glucose metabolism, and possessed a G + C content of 50.7 to 50.9 mol%.

[254] Ethanolamine deaminase (Clostridium sp.)

1971
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the methods of preparation of Ethanolamine Deaminase ( Clostridium sp.). A coupled reaction in which the acetaldehyde produced in the deaminase reaction is reduced to ethanol in the presence of added DPNH and excess alcohol dehydrogenase forms the basis of the assay.

Clostridium bolteae sp. nov., Isolated from Human Sources

Systematic and Applied Microbiology, 2003
Seven obligately anaerobic, gram-positive, rod-shaped, spore-forming organisms isolated from human sources were characterized using phenotypic and molecular taxonomic methods. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequencing showed that the strains were genetically highly related to each other (displaying >99% sequence similarity) and represent a previously ...

Clostridium bartlettii sp. nov., isolated from human faeces

Anaerobe, 2004
Seven obligately anaerobic, Gram-positive, rod-shaped, spore-forming organisms isolated from human faecal specimens were characterized using phenotypic and molecular taxonomic methods. Strains of the unidentified bacterium used carbohydrates as fermentable substrates, producing acetic acid, isovaleric acid and phenylacetic acid (PAA) as the major ...

Evaluating new bio-hydrogen producers: Clostridium perfringens strain JJC, Clostridium bifermentans strain WYM and Clostridium sp. strain Ade.TY

Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering, 2018
Three newly discovered H2 producing bacteria namely Clostridium perfringens strain JJC, Clostridium bifermentans strain WYM and Clostridium sp. strain Ade.TY originated from landfill leachate sludge have demonstrated highly efficient H2 production.

Characterization of Clostridium sp. RKD producing botulinum-like neurotoxin

Systematic and Applied Microbiology, 2005
A Gram positive, motile, rod-shaped, strictly anaerobic bacterium isolated from intestine of decaying fish was identified as Clostridium sp. RKD and produced a botulinum type B-like neurotoxin as suggested by mouse bioassay and protection with anti botulinum antibodies.

Anaerobic Degradation of the Insecticide Lindane by Clostridium sp.

Nature, 1969
MANY chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticides commonly used in agriculture for pest control persist for extended periods in soils, and therefore generate problems of environmental pollution. For example, in certain circumstances, lindane (γ-isomer of hexachlorocyclohexane or γ-BHC) is known to persist in soil for periods of up to 11 yr1.

XPS and XANES Studies of Uranium Reduction by Clostridium sp

Environmental Science & Technology, 1994
Speciation of uranium in cultures of Clostridium sp. by X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) at the National Synchrotron Light Source and by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that U(VI) was reduced to U(IV). In addition to U(IV), a lower oxidation state of uranium, most probably U(III), was detected by XANES in the bacterial ...

Dissolution of ferrites byclostridiumsp.

Geomicrobiology Journal, 1991
Abstract The dissolution of several normal and inverse ferrites by Clostridium sp. under anaerobic conditions occurs through enzymatic reductive dissolution of iron (direct action) and through organic acid metabolites (indirect action) produced by the bacteria.

Clostridium asparagiforme sp. nov., isolated from a human faecal sample

Systematic and Applied Microbiology, 2006
An obligatory anaerobic, Gram-positive, rod-shaped organism was isolated from faeces of a healthy human donor. It was characterized using biochemical, phenotypic and molecular taxonomic methods. The organism produced acetate, lactate, and ethanol as the major products of glucose fermentation. The G + C content was 53 mol%. Based on comparative 16S rRNA
