Dreier on the supervenience argument against robust realism

open access: yesFilosofia Unisinos, 2017
Blackburn has put forward a very influential argument against moral realism, which turns around the supervenience relation. Dreier’s version of the supervenience argument has a narrower target.

On Bipolar Fuzzy Gradation of Openness

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
The concept of bipolar fuzziness is of relatively recent origin where in addition to the presence of a property, which is done in fuzzy theory, the presence of its counter-property is also taken into consideration.

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Categorical Structures in Rough Set Theory and Information Systems

open access: yesMathematics
Using the concept of category, we provide some insight into and prove an intrinsic property of the category AprS of approximation spaces and continuous functions.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Factors influencing outcomes among patients with whiplash-associated disorder: A population-based study in Japan.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
IntroductionOnly a few, large population-based studies, have reported on whiplash-associated disorder (WAD). However, none of them have investigated the influence of crash severity on WAD outcome. In the present study, we aimed to determine whether crash

Evaluation of the 1-D hyperbolic quadrature method of moments for non-equilibrium flows [PDF]

open access: yesESAIM: Proceedings and Surveys
When considering moment methods for the resolution of the free-transport term of the 1-D kinetic equation, the hyperbolic quadrature method of moments (HyQMOM) closure introduced in [12] leads to a globally hyperbolic system of conservation equations ...

Closure Properties of Synchronized Relations.

open access: yes, 2019
A standard approach to define k-ary word relations over a finite alphabet A is through k-tape finite state automata that recognize regular languages L over {1, ..., k} x A, where (i,a) is interpreted as reading letter a from tape i. Accordingly, a word w in L denotes the tuple (u_1, ..., u_k) in (A^*)^k in which u_i is the projection of w onto i ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...
