Climate Study Using a Global Cloud-resolving Model

open access: yesChigaku Zasshi (Jounal of Geography), 2010
We have developed a new type of atmospheric general circulation model, “global cloud-resolving model” which covers the globe with a mesh size of a few kilometers. This model enables us to directly simulate the multi-scale structure of the cloud systems of the Earth from meso-scale to planetary scale cloud disturbances.

Multi‐Scale Interface Engineering of MXenes for Multifunctional Sensory Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MXenes, as two‐dimensional transition metal carbides and nitrides, demonstrate remarkable capabilities for multifunctional sensing applications. This review systematically examines multi‐scale interface engineering approaches that enhance sensing performance, enable diverse detection functionalities, and improve system‐level compatibility in MXene ...

Modelling the reversible uptake of chemical species in the gas phase by ice particles formed in a convective cloud [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The present paper is a preliminary study preparing the introduction of reversible trace gas uptake by ice particles into a 3-D cloud resolving model. For this a 3-D simulation of a tropical deep convection cloud was run with the BRAMS cloud resolving ...

Datasets for radiation emulator in a cloud resolving model

open access: yes, 2022
Training sets used in the following reference to the RRTMG-K radiation emulator in a cloud resolving model The structure of input and output variables is slightly changed from the GRL 2020 study. Full datasets, without sub-sampling, are provided. 3s_full.i and 3s_full.o are minimum and maximum values for input and output, respectively. See more details

Graphene Nanosheet‐Based Mixed Proton‐Electron Conducting Membranes for Efficient Hydrogen Purification

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A monolayer graphene/phosphoric‐acid mixed proton‐electron conducting membrane combines proton‐conducting nanoconfined acid channels with electron‐conducting graphene nanosheets for efficient high‐temperature hydrogen purification. The membrane achieves nearly 100% H2/CO2 selectivity and 69 GPU hydrogen permeance at 250°C, arising from synergistic ...

A Cumulus Cloud Microphysics Parameterization for Cloud-Resolving Models

open access: yesJournal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 2013
Abstract A microphysical parameterization for shallow cumulus and boundary layer stratocumulus clouds has been developed. Similar to the Khairoutdinov and Kogan parameterization for stratocumulus clouds, the new parameterization is based on an explicit microphysical large-eddy simulation (LES) model as a data source and benchmark for ...

On the instabilities of tropical cyclones generated by cloud resolving models [PDF]

open access: yesTellus A: Dynamic Meteorology and Oceanography, 2018
An approximate method is developed for finding and analysing the main instability modes of a tropical cyclone whose basic state is obtained from a cloud resolving numerical simulation. The method is based on a linearised model of the perturbation dynamics that distinctly incorporates the overturning secondary circulation of the vortex, spatially ...

Smart Face Masks as Wearable Respiratory Sensors: A Review of Sensor Technologies, Materials, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in smart face masks that actively monitor breathing. By integrating humidity, gas, temperature, pressure, strain, and triboelectric sensors, these masks track key respiratory parameters in real time. The article summarizes sensor mechanisms, compares performance across studies, and discusses challenges and future ...

A study of reduced numerical precision to make superparameterization more competitive using a hardware emulator in the OpenIFS model

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2017
The use of reduced numerical precision to reduce computing costs for the cloud resolving model of superparameterized simulations of the atmosphere is investigated. An approach to identify the optimal level of precision for many different model components
