In this study, we examine the cumulative effect of pollution aerosol and dust acting as cloud nucleating aerosol;cloud condensation nuclei (CCN), giant cloud condensation nuclei, and ice nuclei (IN), on orographic precipitation in the Rocky Mountains. We

The observed influence of local anthropogenic pollution on northern Alaskan cloud properties [PDF]
Due to their importance for the radiation budget, liquid-containing clouds are a key component of the Arctic climate system. Depending on season, they can cool or warm the near-surface air.

Cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) activity of aliphatic amine secondary aerosol [PDF]
Aliphatic amines can form secondary aerosol via oxidation with atmospheric radicals (e.g., hydroxyl radical and nitrate radical). The particle can contain both secondary organic aerosol (SOA) and inorganic salts.

Increased ionization supports growth of aerosols into cloud condensation nuclei
Ions produced by cosmic rays have been thought to influence aerosol and cloud processes by an unknown mechanism. Here the authors show that the mass flux of ions to aerosols enhances their growth significantly, with implications for the formation of ...

Cloud condensation nuclei concentrations derived from the CAMS reanalysis [PDF]
Determining number concentrations of cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) is one of the first steps in the chain in analysis of cloud droplet formation, the direct microphysical link between aerosols and cloud droplets, and a process key for aerosol–cloud ...

Incorporation of advanced aerosol activation treatments into CESM/CAM5: model evaluation and impacts on aerosol indirect effects [PDF]
One of the greatest sources of uncertainty in the science of anthropogenic climate change is from aerosol–cloud interactions. The activation of aerosols into cloud droplets is a direct microphysical linkage between aerosols and clouds; parameterizations ...

Observations of anthropogenic cloud condensation nuclei [PDF]
Abstract Cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) concentrations and spectral measurements obtained with the DRI instantaneous CCN spectrometer (Hudson, 1989, J. atmos. ocean. Technol.6, 1055–1065) are presented. Anthropogenic CCN production mechanisms were readily identifiable while natural CCN production could not be detected.

Development of the Horizontal Cloud Condensation Nuclei Counter (HCCNC) to detect particle activation down to 4 °C temperature and 0.05 % supersaturation [PDF]
Aerosol particles play a critical role as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) in the atmosphere. The capacity of aerosol particles to activate into cloud droplets is measured experimentally using CCN counters (CCNCs).

Relationships between particles, cloud condensation nuclei and cloud droplet activation during the third Pallas Cloud Experiment [PDF]
Concurrent measurement of aerosols, cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) and cloud droplet activation were carried out as a part of the third Pallas Cloud Experiment (PaCE-3) which took place at a ground based site located on northern Finland during the ...
