Gut Microbiota‐Isoallolithocholic Acid Crosstalk Promotes Calcium Oxalate Kidney Stone Formation via PARP1‐Mediated Parthanatos

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Bile acids have been implicated in calcium oxalate (CaOx) nephrolithiasis. Here, we employ multi‐omics approaches to identify isoallolithocholic acid (isoalloLCA) as the key bile acid elevated in the feces, serum, kidney, and urine of CaOx rats, confirmed by spatial metabolomics.

Giant Cloud Condensation Nuclei enhanced Ice Sublimation Process: a potential mechanism in mixed-phase clouds [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics
The Wegener–Bergeron–Findeisen (WBF) process describes the growth of ice crystals at the expense of supercooled liquid droplets in mixed-phase clouds, driven by phase transitions at temperatures below 0 °C.

Frequent new particle formation over the high Arctic pack ice by enhanced iodine emissions

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Which vapors are responsible for new particle formation in the Arctic is largely unknown. Here, the authors show that the formation of new particles at the central Arctic Ocean is mainly driven by iodic acid and that particles smaller than 30 nm in ...

Method to retrieve cloud condensation nuclei number concentrations using lidar measurements [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2019
Determination of cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) number concentrations at cloud base is important to constrain aerosol–cloud interactions. A new method to retrieve CCN number concentrations using backscatter and extinction profiles from multiwavelength ...

AKAP1 Protects Retinal Ganglion Cells and Preserves Vision by Improving Mitochondrial and Synaptic Health in Glaucomatous Neurodegeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Intravitreal AAV2‐mediated AKAP1 restoration enhances mitochondrial fusion and biogenesis, improves bioenergetic capacity, and preserves mitochondrial integrity in glaucomatous RGCs. AKAP1 stabilizes presynaptic structure, maintaining synaptic protein expression, and limiting complement‐associated neuroinflammation.

Dust suppresses aerosol first indirect effects in marine warm clouds over the North Atlantic Ocean

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Mineral dust is one of the most abundant atmospheric aerosols, yet its role in aerosol-cloud interactions remains poorly constrained. Although aging during transport enables weakly hygroscopic dust to act as cloud condensation nuclei and modify cloud ...

Comprehensive Characterization of Acer truncatum Leaf Extract: Identification of Systemic Metabolites and Effects on Performance, Antioxidant Status, and Intestinal Microbiota in Laying Hens

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary A. truncatum leaf extract is absorbed and improves laying performance in aged hens by enhancing systemic antioxidant capacity and modulating the gut microbiota. ABSTRACT The demand for natural feed additives is considerably increasing in the antibiotic‐free feed era.

Nucleation of atmospheric particles

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2009
Two types of particles exist in the atmosphere, primary and secondary particles. While primary particles such as soot, mineral dust, sea salt particles or pollen are introduced directly as particles into the atmosphere, secondary particles are formed in ...

Description and evaluation of GLOMAP-mode: a modal global aerosol microphysics model for the UKCA composition-climate model [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development, 2010
A new version of the Global Model of Aerosol Processes (GLOMAP) is described, which uses a two-moment pseudo-modal aerosol dynamics approach rather than the original two-moment bin scheme.
