A Vacuum‐Suction and Rotate End Effector for Robotic Apple Fruitlet Thinning: Comparative Development, Integrated Field Evaluation, and Preliminary Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Robotic apple thinning is constrained by a single field season confined to a few weeks each year. An efficient design process screens four detachment concepts off‐season using an artificial fruitlet structure, with field trials identifying vacuum suction and rotation as the most effective approach.

Beyond the Camera: Epidermal Sensor Platforms for Intelligent Facial Expression Recognition and Interactive Human Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Skin‐conformal epidermal sensors enable camera‐free intelligent facial monitoring by converting facial deformation and muscle activity into electrical signals through piezoresistive, capacitive, electrophysiologic, and self‐powered mechanisms. Coupled with artificial intelligence (AI), these platforms support facial expression recognition, human ...

A Distributed Multirobot Architecture for Decoupled Inspection and Localized Treatment in Precision Agriculture

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A distributed multirobot architecture enables asynchronous vineyard inspection and localized treatment through a cloud‐based mission control center. Real‐world validation demonstrates reliable coordination of heterogeneous robots, accurate disease detection, and effective conversion of georeferenced observations into targeted treatment actions ...

AI Dependence as a Longitudinal Governance Problem

open access: yesAI &Innovation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Artificial intelligence governance typically focuses on whether people rely on AI appropriately during individual decisions. This Perspective addresses a different question: whether repeated AI use changes the capabilities and alternatives available to users and organisations over time.

Success of coastal sage scrub restoration is influenced by local adaptations of shrub species

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Restoring plant communities is increasingly challenging with climate change. While practitioners have traditionally used local seed sources, many are recommending assisted migration, possibly from more extreme environments such as inland rather than coastal environments, for restoration.

Expanded characterization of the valproic acid zebrafish larval model of autism spectrum disorder: Insights into dysregulation in the gut

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Meticulous calculation of zebrafish‐equivalent therapeutic valproic acid (VPA) dosage maximized the translational value of the data. Hyposerotonergic tone underpinned an anxiety‐like outcome as a core symptom of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Compartment‐specific dopaminergic and serotonergic dysregulation in the brain versus gut provided mechanistic ...

Tracing the evolutionary history of the morpho‐anatomy of baculum in primates

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Animal morphology reflects both evolutionary history and present‐day adaptation. Male mammal copulatory structures such as the baculum (penile bone) are ideal for studying these processes because of their complexity and high interspecific variability. In primates, however, research has focused mostly on baculum length.

Morphological adaptations of cervical vertebrae in plunge‐diving sulids

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Foraging strategy frequently drives morphological diversification in birds. The plunge‐diving behavior of certain species makes the functional and ecological trade‐offs of variation in cervical vertebrae an especially intriguing question. This study compares cervical vertebrae across five plunge‐diving species and two non‐plunge‐diving species,

Effects of Cellulase and Lactobacillus plantarum Supplementation on Fermentation Characteristics, In Situ Degradability, and Microbial Community Dynamics of Apple Pomace Silage

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study aimed to investigate the effects of cellulase and Lactobacillus plantarum on the silage quality, in situ digestibility, and microbial communities of apple pomace silage. The combined supplementation of cellulase and Lactobacillus plantarum in apple pomace silage improved fermentation quality and enhanced rumen utilization efficiency.
