The Cloze Procedure as a Measure of Mathematical English

A method of adapting cloze tests for use with mathematical passages is discussed. The validity of the cloze procedure as a measure of comprehensibility and difficulty of mathematical selections is tested. For 5 passages, 25 cloze tests and 5 comprehension tests were administered to subjects, grades 7 through 10.

Two experiments that evaluate the effectiveness of the cloze test as a method for detecting plagiarism are reported. The first experiment employed student essays on the same topic, and required subjects to fill in missing words from either their own or another student's work.

A modules cloze procedures as a test of comprehension and expression in adolescents

An auditorily presented cloze procedure was used as a test of auditory comprehension and expression of language in learning disabled (LD) and regular classroom adolescents. Three sentence types of increasing linguistic complexity and five standard grammatical operations were employed in constructing the stimulus paragraph.
