Genomic Insights Into Carbapenem‐Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in Pediatric Bloodstream Infections in Zhejiang, China (2019–2024)

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
The primary mechanism of carbapenem resistance identified in pediatric CRKP‐BSI strains was the production of Class B metalloenzymes. We report, for the first time, an outbreak of bloodstream infections in a neonatal ward caused by the dissemination of NDM‐1‐producing ST25 K. pneumoniae.

Relationship between Protein Oxidation Biomarkers and Uterine Health in Dairy Cows during the Postpartum Period [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
High neutrophil (PMN, Polymorphonuclear neutrophil) counts in the endometrium of cows affected by endometritis, suggests the involvement of oxidative stress (OS) among the causes of impaired fertility. Protein oxidation, in particular, advanced oxidation

Time to switch from CLSI to EUCAST? A Southeast Asian perspective [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Microbiology and Infection, 2019
Despite the importance of antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) to clinical management of infection and to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance, methodologies and breakpoints of the two most commonly used systems worldwide, CLSI and EUCAST, are far from harmonized.

Oral Cryptococcosis due to Naganishia diffluens in a Patient With Thalassemia: A Case Report and a Literature Review

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
Naganishia diffluens, a rare non‐neoformans cryptococcal species, was identified by PCR sequencing as the causative agent of oral cryptococcosis in a 31‐year‐old Iranian man with β‐thalassemia. This case represents the first documented instance of oral infection by N.

A blaVIM-2 Plasmid Disseminating in Extensively Drug-Resistant Clinical Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Serratia marcescens Isolates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae isolates are an issue of major global concern (1). Genes coding for metallo-β-lactamases (MβLs) identified in clinical isolates are associated with mobile elements and subject to horizontal ...

On‐site pilot‐scale advanced oxidation pretreatment of hospital wastewater: assessment of pharmaceuticals, pathogens, antibiotic resistance genes and acute ecotoxicity

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Hospital premises generate wastewater containing a wide spectrum of contaminants, such as pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs), antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and pathogenic microorganisms, whilst plenty of them are classified under the antibiotic resistant bacteria (ΑRΒ) category.

Antithrombin: Deficiency, Diversity, and the Future of Diagnostics

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Our healthcare system provides reactive sick‐care, treating patients after symptoms have appeared by prescription of generic and often suboptimal therapy. This strategy brings along high costs and high pressure which is not sustainable.

The anti-adhesive effect of curcumin on Candida albicans biofilms on denture materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The use of natural compounds as an alternative source of antimicrobials has become a necessity given the growing concern over global antimicrobial resistance. Polyphenols, found in various edible plants, offers one potential solution to this. We aimed to

Generation of equine‐specific local antibiograms: reproductive tract of mares and fillies in Western Australia

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Introduction Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) may lead to increasing inefficacy and treatment failure of bacterial infections in the future. Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programmes are critical to ensuring the continued efficacy of available antimicrobials.
