Early B-Cell Differentiation in Merkel Cell Carcinomas: Clues to Cellular Ancestry [PDF]

open access: yesCancer Research, 2013
AbstractMerkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a highly malignant neuroendocrine nonmelanoma skin cancer, which is associated with the Merkel cell polyoma virus (MCPyV). Recently, expression of the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) and the paired box gene 5 (PAX 5) has been consistently reported in the majority of MCCs.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Complete Resolution of Pseudomalignant Erosion in a Reflux Gastroesophageal Polyp with Proton Pump Inhibitor

open access: yesCase Reports in Pathology, 2015
Pseudomalignant erosion is a diagnostic pitfall for pathologists in the differential diagnosis of malignant neoplasms. Here, we present a challenging case of a biopsy specimen from the eroded head of a polyp at the esophagogastric junction.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Bacterial Vaginosis Bacterial and Epithelial Cell Adhesion Molecules

open access: yesGynecology Obstetrics & Reproductive Medicine, 2013
Lactobacilli are member of normal vaginal flora. They maintain low pH of vaginal discharge by metabolising glycogen in vaginal epithelial cell and protects the vagina against the pathogenic microorganisms.

Annular papulovesicular lesions with a purpuric center in a female inpatient

open access: yesClinical Case Reports
Key Clinical Message Epidermal multinucleated keratinocytes, or epidermal grape cells, in the absence of any viral infection, are an important histological finding and a clue for the diagnosis of dermatoses induced by external irritation or aggression ...

Origin of Quantum Mechanical Results and Life: A Clue from Quantum Biology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Although quantum mechanics can accurately predict the probability distribution of outcomes in an ensemble of identical systems, it cannot predict the result of an individual system.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

CpG Oligodeoxynucleotides Enhance the Efficacy of Adoptive Cell Transfer Using Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes by Modifying the Th1 Polarization and Local Infiltration of Th17 Cells

open access: yesClinical and Developmental Immunology, 2010
Adoptive cell transfer immunotherapy using tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) was an important therapeutic strategy against tumors. But the efficacy remains limited and development of new strategies is urgent.

Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma with paraneoplatic pemphigus: Rare case and a brief review of literature

open access: yesIndian Journal of Medical and Paediatric Oncology, 2013
Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP) is often a fatal autoimmune bullous disease characterized by severe stomatitis, polymorphous skin eruptions, and underlying neoplasms. We describe a patient with PNP associated with follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS),
