A parametric model for partitioning individuals into mutually exclusive groups is given. A Bayesian analysis is applied and a loss structure imposed. A model-dependent definition of a similarity inatrix is proposed and estimates based on this matrix are justified in a decision-theoretic framework.

The purpose of this chapter is to describe and illustrate the analytical technique known as cluster analysis and to outline its application in tourism research. This technique can be extremely useful for certain research questions, but a review of literature shows that its application has been quite infrequent.
