Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Motif Clustering and Overlapping Clustering for Social Network Analysis

open access: yes, 2017
Motivated by applications in social network community analysis, we introduce a new clustering paradigm termed motif clustering. Unlike classical clustering, motif clustering aims to minimize the number of clustering errors associated with both edges and ...

The Fault-Tolerant Cluster-Sending Problem

open access: yes, 2022
The development of fault-tolerant distributed systems that can tolerate Byzantine behavior has traditionally been focused on consensus protocols, which support fully-replicated designs. For the development of more sophisticated high-performance Byzantine distributed systems, more specialized fault-tolerant communication primitives are necessary ...

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

The polynomial cluster value problem [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 2018
The polynomial cluster value problem replaces the role of the continuous linear functionals in the original cluster value problem for the continuous polynomials to describe the corresponding cluster sets and fibers. We prove several polynomial cluster value theorems for uniform algebras $H(B)$ between $A_u(B)$ and $H^{\infty}(B)$, where $B$ is the open

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...

A Study on Clustering for Clustering Based Image De-Noising [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper, the problem of de-noising of an image contaminated with Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) is studied. This subject is an open problem in signal processing for more than 50 years.

Clustering problems in a multiobjective framework

open access: yesRevista de Matemática: Teoría y Aplicaciones, 2016
We propose a new algorithm using tabu search to deal with biobjective clustering problems. A cluster is a collection of records that are similar to one other and dissimilar to records in other clusters. Clustering has applications in VLSI design, protein-protein interaction networks, data mining and many others areas.

A Topology Optimization Framework for the Inverse Design of Nonlinear Mechanical Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work uses topology optimization to design unit cells for mechanical metamaterials with a prescribed nonlinear stress–strain response. The framework adds contact and postbuckling modeling to synthesize microstructures for three highly nonlinear responses, including pseudoductile behavior, monostable with snap‐through buckling, and bistable ...
