Quantifying Estuarine Hydrometeorological Coastal Hazards Using a Combined Field Observation and Modeling Approach

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
Coastal development and its associated site management have rapidly expanded to estuarine environments while continuing to increase worldwide. With the growth of coastal management projects, field observations are required to understand how anthropogenic

The properties, origin and evolution of stellar clusters in galaxy simulations and observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We investigate the properties and evolution of star particles in two simulations of isolated spiral galaxies, and two galaxies from cosmological simulations. Unlike previous numerical work, where typically each star particle represents one ‘cluster’, for

The Star Cluster System in the Local Group Starburst Galaxy IC 10

open access: yes, 2015
We present a survey of star clusters in the halo of IC 10, a starburst galaxy in the Local Group based on Subaru R band images and NOAO Local Group Survey UBVRI images. We find five new star clusters.

Alignments of the Dominant Galaxies in Poor Clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We have examined the orientations of brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) in poor MKW and AWM clusters and find that, like their counterparts in richer Abell clusters, poor cluster BCGs exhibit a strong propensity to be aligned with the principal axes of ...

Preferences of Pediatric Patients and Their Caregivers for Chemotherapy‐Induced Nausea and Vomiting Control Endpoints: A Mixed Methods Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Although not always achieved, complete chemotherapy‐induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) control is the conventional goal of CINV prophylaxis. In this two‐center, mixed‐methods study, we sought to understand the preferences of adolescent patients and family caregivers for CINV control endpoints.

Network Pharmacology, Molecular Dynamics and In Vitro Assessments of Indigenous Herbal Formulations for Alzheimer’s Therapy

open access: yesLife
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an age-associated neurodegenerative condition marked by amyloid plaques, synaptic dysfunction, and neuronal loss. Besides conventional medical care, herbal therapies, both raw and refined, have attracted researchers for their ...

Rainfall zoning of Bahia State, Brazil: an update proposal

open access: yesRevista Ambiente & Água, 2018
The state of Bahia’s main climatic characteristic is the high spatial and chronological variability of precipitation. This heterogeneity may be used to determine of pluviometrically homogeneous areas that can define mesoregions in the state, since they ...

Evidence for two populations of Galactic globular clusters from the ratio of their half-mass to Jacobi radii

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate the ratio between the half-mass radii r_h of Galactic globular clusters and their Jacobi radii r_J given by the potential of the Milky Way and show that clusters with galactocentric distances R_{GC}>8 kpc fall into two distinct groups: one

Intracluster Globular Clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Globular cluster populations of supergiant elliptical galaxies are known to vary widely, from extremely populous systems like that of UGC 9799, the centrally dominant galaxy in Abell 2052, to globular-cluster-poor galaxies such as NGC 5629 in Abell 2666.

On clustering with discounts

open access: yesInformation Processing Letters, 2022
We study the $k$-median with discounts problem, wherein we are given clients with non-negative discounts and seek to open at most $k$ facilities. The goal is to minimize the sum of distances from each client to its nearest open facility which is discounted by its own discount value, with minimum contribution being zero.
