BCMA-ES: A Bayesian Approach to CMA-ES [PDF]
This paper introduces a novel theoretically sound approach for the celebrated CMA-ES algorithm. Assuming the parameters of the multi variate normal distribution for the minimum follow a conjugate prior distribution, we derive their optimal update at each iteration step. Not only provides this Bayesian framework a justification for the update of the CMA-

Warm Starting CMA-ES for Hyperparameter Optimization
Hyperparameter optimization (HPO), formulated as black-box optimization (BBO), is recognized as essential for automation and high performance of machine learning approaches. The CMA-ES is a promising BBO approach with a high degree of parallelism, and has been applied to HPO tasks, often under parallel implementation, and shown superior performance to ...

An Asynchronous Implementation of the Limited Memory CMA-ES
We present our asynchronous implementation of the LM-CMA-ES algorithm, which is a modern evolution strategy for solving complex large-scale continuous optimization problems.

Theoretical Foundation for CMA-ES from Information Geometry Perspective [PDF]
This paper explores the theoretical basis of the covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA-ES) from the information geometry viewpoint. To establish a theoretical foundation for the CMA-ES, we focus on a geometric structure of a Riemannian manifold of probability distributions equipped with the Fisher metric.

High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Comparing Mirrored Mutations and Active Covariance Matrix Adaptation in the IPOP-CMA-ES on the Noiseless BBOB Testbed [PDF]
International audienceThis paper investigates two variants of the well-known Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy (CMA-ES). Active covariance matrix adaptation allows for negative weights in the covariance matrix update rule such that "bad ...

Interaction of Ladle Slag With Varying SiO2 Content and Recyclate‐Based MgO–C Refractories
Ladle slags (CaO/Al2O3 = 1) with 1–20 wt% SiO2 were investigated in contact with industrial MgO–C refractories fabricated from fresh magnesia and 50 wt% recyclate. The sessile drop method at 1600°C reveals intensive gas formation, delayed slag infiltration in recyclate‐based samples, and, under high‐SiO2 slag, formation of a dense MgAl2O4‐rich ...

Benchmarking IPOP-CMA-ES-TPA and IPOP-CMA-ES-MSR on the BBOB Noiseless Testbed [PDF]
We benchmark IPOP-CMA-ES, a restart Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy with increasing population size, with two step-size adaptation mechanisms, Two-Point Step-Size Adapation (TPA) and Median Success Rule (MSR), on the BBOB noiseless testbed.
