J-integral and CMOD for external inclined cracks on autofrettaged cylinders

International Journal of Fracture, 2011
Autofrettage is a well-known method to increase the load carrying capacity of the pressure vessels. The autofrettage outcomes can be contrary when the imperfections or material discontinuities are on the outer surface. In this study, the influences of the external inclined cracks on the fracture parameters in autofrettaged cylinders were studied.

CMOD Compliance of B×B Single Edge Bend Specimens

Volume 6: Materials and Fabrication, Parts A and B, 2012
In ASTM standard E1820, the single edge bend (SE(B)) geometry is one of those recommended for fracture toughness testing. The width to thickness (W/B) ratio recommended in E1820 for this specimen is 2. However, in certain cases, it is desirable to use specimens having alternative W/B ratios; the range of W/B suggested in E1820 is 1 to 4.

Experimental Determination of J-R Curves Using SENB Specimens and P-CMOD Data

Volume 6: Materials and Fabrication, Parts A and B, 2008
Fracture toughness and J-R curves of ductile materials are often measured under the guidance of ASTM standard E1820 using the single specimen technique and the elastic unloading compliance method. For the standard single-edge notched bend [SENB] specimens, the load, load-line displacement (LLD), and crack-mouth opening displacement (CMOD) are required ...

Design of voltage-adaptive CMOD for electromagnetic mechanism

2019 4th International Conference on Intelligent Green Building and Smart Grid (IGBSG), 2019
Aim at adaptive CMOD for electromagnetic mechanism, strategy has been designed to widen the input voltage based on existing wide voltage CMOD. CMOD is divided into several submodules according to their function. Submodule can work independently, meanwhile, cooperation among submodules is allowed to output exciting signal for various contactors ...

A Study on the Fitting Accuracy of CMOD Compliance Equations

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2013
Abstract The maximum error of the inverse fitting of Tada et al.’s equation of the a/W–crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD) compliance equation proposed by Joyce and adopted in ASTM E1820-11 for single edge bend [SE(B)] specimens with shallow cracks (0.05 ≤ a/W < 0.45) is observed to be 2.03 % for 0.05 < a/W < 0.1.

Research on Fracture-CMOD Toughness of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
In order to study the fracture toughness of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) and the postcracking toughness evaluation method, the fracture toughness tests were done for the four types of steel fibers and three kinds of matrix strength. According to the experiment curves of the load and the crack mouth opening displacement (Load-CMOD), the ...

A Numerical Study on CMOD Compliance for Single-Edge Bending Specimens

Volume 3: Design and Analysis, 2012
Several well-known equations for estimating the crack length in the SE(B) specimens from the normalized CMOD compliance are evaluated based on two- and three-dimensional finite element analyses. Two-dimensional analyses are carried out first to verify the reported accuracy and applicable ranges for each equation based on the plane strain models with ...

A Numerical Study on CMOD Compliance for Single-Edge Notched Bending Specimens

Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 2015
Several well-known equations for estimating the crack length in the single-edge notched bending (SE(B)) specimens from the normalized crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD) compliance are evaluated based on two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) finite element analyses (FEAs).

Stress Intensity factor, compliance and CMOD for a General Three-Point-Bend Beam

International Journal of Fracture, 1998
New simple and general expressions for the stress intensity factor, compliance and crack mouth opening displacement for three-point bend specimens are computed. Inverse functions giving the crack length as a function of load-point displacement or crack mouth opening displacement are also included.
