An Investigation of Silica Aerogel to Reduce Acoustic Crosstalk in CMUT Arrays
This paper presents a novel technique to reduce acoustic crosstalk in capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT) arrays. The technique involves fabricating a thin layer of diisocyanate enhanced silica aerogel on the top surface of a CMUT array.

Rayleigh–bloch waves in CMUT arrays [PDF]
Using the small-signal electrical equivalent circuit of a capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT) cell, along with the self and mutual radiation impedances of such cells, we present a computationally efficient method to predict the frequency response of a large CMUT element or array.

Pull-in Analysis of CMUT Elements
This paper presents a novel characterization method for the pull-in voltage of a Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducer (CMUT) element. The presented method allows pull-in estimation of all CMUT cells contained in an element, which is in contrast to conventional methods that only allows for a pull-in average across an element.

Designing transmitting CMUT cells for airborne applications [PDF]
We report a new mode of airborne operation for capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUT), in which the plate motion spans the entire gap without collapsing and the transducer is driven by a sinusoidal voltage without a dc bias. We present equivalent-circuit-based design fundamentals for an airborne CMUT cell and verify the design targets ...

CMUT array element in deep-collapse mode [PDF]
Collapse and deep-collapse mode of operations have boosted the pressure outputs of capacitive micromachined ul- trasonic transducers (CMUTs) considerably. In this work, we demonstrate a CMUT element operating in the deep-collapse mode with 25 V pulse excitation and without the effects of charge trapping.

Forward-viewing CMUT arrays for medical imaging
This paper reports the design and testing of forward-viewing annular arrays fabricated using capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT) technology. Recent research studies have shown that CMUTs have broad frequency bandwidth and high-transduction efficiency.

Echographic Images Improvements with a CMUT Probe
The validity of cMUT (capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducer) technology for medical imaging applications has been proved by many authors. The large bandwidth obtained with cMUT leads to improved image resolution compared to their piezoelectric counterpart. Recently, our laboratory (Aculab) has developed a flexible cMUT technology (the “Reverse”
