Co-array optimization of CMUT arrays for Forward-Looking IVUS

open access: yes2009 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium, 2009
The ring annular array structure is a preferred configuration for implementing Forward-Looking IVUS (FL-IVUS) catheters as it allows for volumetric imaging as well as use of a guidewire at the center. CMUT technology is promising for these arrays especially with the flexibility of locating array elements on the circular donut area efficiently.

High-Intensity Airborne CMUT Transmitter Array With Beam Steering [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Microelectromechanical Systems, 2020
A $2\times 2$ high-intensity CMUT transmit array that is capable of two-dimensional beam steering is presented. The device uses an ac drive voltage at half the ultrasound frequency without any dc bias, enabling the usage of the entire gap height. The device is designed using a large signal equivalent model approach.

Research on High-Efficiency Transmission Characteristics of Multi-Channel Breast Ultrasound Signals Based on Graphene Structure

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
In breast ultrasound CT imaging, the ultrasound signals received by high-density CMUT cylindrical array have problems of low transmission efficiency, susceptibility to interference from other signals, and an inability to achieve efficient acquisition ...

An Integrated Front-end Circuit Board for Air-Coupled CMUT Burst-Echo Imaging

open access: yesSensors, 2020
To conduct burst-echo imaging with air-coupled capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) using the same elements in transmission and reception, this work proposes a dedicated and integrated front-end circuit board design to build an imaging

Two Capacitive Micro-Machined Ultrasonic Transducers for Wind Speed Measurement

open access: yesSensors, 2016
This paper presents a new wind speed measurement method using a single capacitive micro-machined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT). The CMUT was arranged perpendicular to the direction of the wind flow, and a reflector was set up a short distance away, facing

Evaluation of CMUT annular arrays for side-looking IVUS

open access: yes2009 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium, 2009
Side-looking (SL) IVUS probes are extensively used for management of cardiovascular diseases. Currently SL-IVUS imaging probes use either a single rotating transducer element or solid-state arrays. Probes with single rotating piezoelectric transducer have simple front-end, but have fixed focused operation, and suffers from motion artifacts. Solid-state

A nonlinear lumped model for ultrasound systems using CMUT arrays [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, 2015
We present a nonlinear lumped model that predicts the electrical input-output behavior of an ultrasonic system using CMUTs with arbitrary array/membrane/electrode geometry in different transmit-receive configurations and drive signals. The receive-only operation, where the electrical output signal of the CMUT array in response to incident pressure ...
