A Boundary Element Model for CMUT-Arrays Loaded by a Viscoelastic Medium

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, 2020
This work is an extension of a model previously developed by our group to simulate the electroacoustic response of capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT)-based linear arrays acoustically loaded by a fluid medium. The goal is to introduce the viscoelasticity effects of the propagation medium into the modeling. These effects are mainly due

A 2D CMUT hydrophone array: Characterization results

2009 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium, 2009
As the use of ultrasonic transducers has increased so has the need to measure and characterize their pressure fields. Currently available hydrophones are limited by long scan times, and multiple source pulses to measure large area fields. Using a 2D capacitive micro-machined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT) array and associated electronics we are able to ...

Sensing physical fluid properties with CMUT arrays

2009 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium, 2009
Fluid waves at the interface of CMUTs (Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasound Transducers) to the surrounding fluid are an often discussed and unwanted effect for medical imaging applications, as they cause ringing artifacts. A new approach for a surface wave sensor is presented which uses these dispersive surface waves for sensing fluid properties like ...

Implementation of master curves for cMUT arrays design

IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium, 2005., 2006
This paper reports on master curves for the design of micro-machined transducer in air and in water immersion. Three different membrane configurations circular, square and rectangular are studied. A simple distributed model has been implemented to simulate the static and dynamic cMUT response.

Design of high-frequency broadband CMUT arrays

2015 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), 2015
In this work we demonstrate a high-frequency (29-MHz) broadband (100% FBW) CMUT 1D array. The devices are fabricated using anodic bonding with only three photolithography steps. We also discuss the design guidelines for high-frequency broadband CMUTs using the simulations.

5F-4 Acoustic Crosstalk Reduction Method for CMUT Arrays

open access: yes, 2006
This paper reports on the finite element analysis (FEA) of crosstalk in capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT) arrays. Finite element calculations using a commercial package (LS-DYNA) were performed for an immersed I-D CMUT array operating

Investigation and Analysis of Ultrasound Imaging Based on Linear CMUT Array

International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, 2019
In the next generation of ultrasound imaging systems, Capacitive micromachined ultasonic transducer (CMUT) based on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) is a promising research direction of transducers, which has wide application prospects. In this paper, based on the study of three imaging methods, including classical phased array (CPA) imaging ...

PIEZOELECTRIC AND CMUT LAYERED ULTRASOUND TRANSDUCER ARRAY

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2013
A CMUT or other semiconductor-based transducer is stacked with a piezoelectric transducer (PZT). The CMUT is sufficiently thin to avoid or limit interference with sound propagation through the CMUT from or to the PZT or crosstalk between transmitter elements.

Design of a Tactile Display Based on a High Power CMUT Array

2012 16th Panhellenic Conference on Informatics, 2012
In this paper we present the optimization of a Capacitive Micro machined Ultrasonic Transducer (CMUT) array that performs as a tactile display using an electrical equivalent circuit model and the SPICE program. The array implements a "pixel" of the display and is used to focus airborne ultrasound energy on the skin surface.
