Co‐circulation of three pathogenic hantaviruses: Puumala, Dobrava, and Saaremaa in Hungary [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, 2009
AbstractHantaviruses (Bunyaviridae) cause hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) in Eurasia and hantavirus (cardio)pulmonary syndrome (HCPS) in the Americas. HFRS is caused by Hantaan virus (HTNV), Seoul virus (SEOV), Dobrava virus (DOBV), Saaremaa virus (SAAV), and Puumala virus (PUUV). Of those, only HTNV is not present in Europe.

Impact of geothermal heating on the global ocean circulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The response of a global circulation model to a uniform geothermal heat flux of 50 mW m-2 through the sea floor is examined. If the geothermal heat input were transported upward purely by diffusion, the deep ocean would warm by 1.2°C. However, geothermal

Co-Circulation of West Nile and Usutu Flaviviruses in Mosquitoes in Slovakia, 2018 [PDF]

open access: yesViruses, 2019
Monitoring West Nile virus (WNV) and Usutu virus (USUV) activity now has the highest priority among mosquito-borne pathogenic viruses circulating in the European Union. This study documents a first time detection and the co-circulation of WNV lineage-2 (with the minimal prevalence of 0.46%) and USUV clade Europe 2 (with the minimal prevalence of 0.25%)

On the structural changes in the Brewer-Dobson circulation after 2000 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper we present evidence that the observed increase in tropical upwelling after the year 2000 may be attributed to a change in the Brewer-Dobson circulation pattern.

Evidence‐Based Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Pediatric Febrile Neutropenia: Resource‐Sensitive Recommendations for the Asian Continent

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Febrile neutropenia (FN) is a frequent and serious complication in children receiving cancer therapy. Standardizing FN management across Asia is challenging due to variable healthcare infrastructure, diagnostic capacity, and infection patterns; however, it could improve resource use and patient outcomes.

Co-circulation of H5N1 and H5N6 high pathogenicity avian influenza viruses in migratory birds at a coastal wintering site in China

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections
Since 2020, H5Nx high pathogenicity avian influenza viruses (HPAIVs) belonging to hemagglutinin (HA) clade 2.3.4.4b have undergone widespread dispersal in wild birds, posing substantial threats to global poultry populations and mammals worldwide. In this

Experience With Performing Rheocarna Therapy via the Single‐Needle Method for Treatment of Chronic Limb‐Threatening Ischemia

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This study investigated the safety and efficacy of single‐needle Rheocarna therapy for chronic limb‐threatening ischemia (CLTI) with wounds. Methods Six patients with CLTI involving ulcers unresponsive to revascularization underwent single‐needle Rheocarna treatment.

Serum Myonectin Levels Are Positively Associated With Physical Function and Lower Frailty‐Related Limitation in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

Distinct monkeypox virus lineages co-circulating in humans before 2022

open access: yesNature Medicine, 2023
Abstract The 2022 global mpox outbreak raises questions about how this zoonotic disease established effective human-to-human transmission and its potential for further adaptation. The 2022 outbreak virus is related to an ongoing outbreak in Nigeria originally reported in 2017, but the evolutionary path linking the
