Intracellular Aβ42 Sequestration by a Serine Protease Mitigates Neurotoxicity in a Drosophila Alzheimer's Disease Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Emerging evidence suggests that intraneuronal Aβ accumulation represents an early pathogenic event in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Using Drosophila AD model, this study shows that a nonsecreted serine protease Yip7 physically interacts with Aβ. This causes intraneuronal Aβ accumulation but surprisingly reduces the associated neurotoxicity, arguing that ...

CO2-water displacement characteristics of saturated sandstones with different pore structures

open access: yesMeitian dizhi yu kantan
ObjectiveThe pore structures of clastics play a crucial role in assessing the potential of saline aquifers for geologic CO2 sequestration. Current studies on pore structures during CO2 sequestration focus primarily on artificial cores.

Delivery of Pleckstrin‐Homology Domains Suppresses PI3K/Akt Signaling and Breast Cancer Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current therapies curb tumor growth but not metastasis. Obscurin, a giant metastasis suppressor lost in breast cancer, restrains PI3K/Akt signaling but is impractical to restore. We deploy a mini‐obscurin, comprising the obscurin‐PH‐domain, which sequesters PI3K‐p85, potently suppressing invasion and metastasis.

Tetrastigma Hemsleyanum Polysaccharide Suppresses Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer by Disrupting the Hippo‐YAP/TEAD4‐PDIA4 Axis and Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Adaptation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC) exhibits addiction to chronic endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, which sustains an aggressive metastatic phenotype through activation of the unfolded protein response (UPR). Here, we identify a previously unrecognized “ER‐stress addiction” axis in which the Hippo pathway effector TEAD4 directly ...

Low Greenhouse Gas Agriculture: Mitigation and Adaptation Potential of Sustainable Farming Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Is low greenhouse gas emission (GHG) agriculture possible? Is it, in fact, desirable? In seeking answers to these two basic but extremely relevant questions, this study examines current farming practices, and incorporates scientific databases from ...

DOTA‐grafted Cationic Polymers Behaving as Powerful Macromolecular Resistance‐reversal Agents (MRRAs) Combating Against New Delhi Metallo‐β‐lactamase (NDM)‐producing Bacteria

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Two macromolecular resistance‐reversal agents (MRRAs)—linear (MRRAL) and nanostructured (MRRAN) polymers were fabricated by integrating DOTA motifs into tunable polycationic scaffolds. MRRAs exhibit superior antibacterial potency once combined with meropenem (MEM) through (i) bacterial membrane disruption via localized cationic charge and ...

Biochar-amended soil can further sorb atmospheric CO2 for more carbon sequestration

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Input of biochar into soil is considered as an efficient technology for carbon sequestration. This work is aimed to explore if the extra sorption of carbon dioxide (CO2) exists in the biochar-amended soil, which has not yet received attention.
