Coal geology and the coal industry

Economic Geology, 1958
The more important changes in the American coal industry during the past fifty years have been brought about through the increasing reliance upon mechanization, automation, and management. The changes have been made possible mainly by industrial research, experimentation, and testing, particularly in the fields of mechanical engineering, preparation ...

A Lecture on “Coal.” [PDF]

open access: possibleThe Geologist
We finished last month with the fact that plant-remains were found in plenty both above and below the coal. I shall draw your attention first to the roof-shale—or clay over the coal—“over-clay” as it is often called: for in this the great majority of remains are preserved. In the roof-shale two kinds of plants are the most conspicuous—fern-leaves, and ...

NMR of Coals and Coal Products

1991
Publisher Summary The chapter discusses the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of coals and coal products. Of the various analytical methods available, NMR spectroscopy has proved to be of special importance in coal research. Different NMR techniques allow the structure of coal and coal products to be investigated in a direct and nondestructive way ...

Coal characterisation by automated coal petrography⋆

Fuel, 2003
Automated imaging techniques were refined to characterise the rank and maceral composition of coals by a full maceral reflectogram of polished coal grain mounts. Precision was improved by processing individual grains in each image separately and correcting within the software for the topography that occurs between the different macerals and minerals in

Preparation of Coal Briquette by Using Coal Waste and Coal Slurry

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
Coal waste and coal slurry are the largest industrial waste generated from coal preparation plants. This paper describes a method to make clean coal briquette with coal waste and coal slurry. Two binders were used during the coal briquette making process.

COAL, SULFOMETHYLATED COAL AND SULFONATED COAL AS FERTILIZERS FOR SOLONETZ SOIL

Canadian Journal of Soil Science, 1971
In pot experiments, with barley seedlings as an indicator crop, it was found that sulfomethylated and sulfonated coal products were less effective nitrogen fertilizers than ammonium nitrate for a Solonetz soil. Sulfonated coal suppressed the uptake of sodium and potassium and was toxic to the plants.
