Bursting liability indices of coal
International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1981Abstract Natural coal's ability to store and release rapidly elastic strain energy seems to be a fundamental condition for the occurrence of rock-bursts in deep underground coal mines. In Upper Silesia where a number of existing mines work below a critical depth, several indices have been proposed and their numerical values found by experiment in ...

Investigation of coal burst characteristics under impact loading
International Journal of Oil, Gas and Coal Technology, 2018Under condition of static loading, although the coal seams in some collieries were of weak burst proneness, still there were occurrences of coal bursts. This paper investigates the coal burst proneness under varying impact loading rates, peak impact loads and loading cycles in terms of four indices, i.e., Rc, DT, WET and KE.

Generation Mechanism of Coal Pillar Rock Burst
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011Aiming at the problem of the isolated coal pillar occurring the rock burst easily and having no the occurrence and damage theory of the rock burst according with actual, it discusses the generation mechanism of tension rock burst of the isolated coal pillar, uses finite element software of the tension fracture to simulate the fracture and evolution ...

Extending Present Coal Reserves with Self-Bursting Coal Pellets: ABSTRACT
AAPG Bulletin, 1983A new scheme is proposed which would extend our present reserves of coal by making use of what is now a waste product. End_Page 519------------------------------ Studies show that up to 25% of the volume of coal is lost as fine coal particles in the coal mining and handling process.

Investigation of Coal Burst Potential Using Numerical Modeling and Rock Burst Indices
2021Coal bursts are typically defined as a rapid failure of coal or surrounding rock producing a violent release of energy and ejection of rock particles. This phenomenon is extremely complex and dynamic, and this has made it very difficult to predict. In the last decades, different researchers have aimed to understand the sources and mechanisms of failure

Steady advance of coal and gas bursts
Acta Mechanica Sinica, 1988This paper establishes a one-dimensional model to analyse the mechanism of coal and gas bursts. It is found that the intrinsic factor governing bursts is the coupling of the initiation of the moving of coal fragments with the gas seepage. A typical (strong) burst can be treated as a steady advance process.

An overview of research into understanding coal burst
2019Coal burst is a high safety and production risk in underground coal mines. It involves a sudden release of strain energy stored within the coal or rock mass due to the disturbance of an unstable state of equilibrium. To improve our understanding of coal burst, it is important to quantify the energy transition involved in this dynamic failure process ...

Water Bursting Mechanism of Coal Floor with Pattern Dynamics
Advanced Materials Research, 2011Coal floor water inrush is the reason that the deformation and failure of rock strata in floor is induced by mining stress, cracks gradually develop, grow and accumulate, catastrophe result in forming water inrush passages, finally floor water inrush occurs.

Coal mass rating with regards to outburst and coal burst
Outbursts and coal bursts pose significant risks to underground coal mine workers. The burst propensity of a coal seam is represented by the three factors of the burst triangle: coal, energy, and isotropic mass. The most critical factor was determined to be isotropic mass controlling the storage potential and release rate of burst energy.openaire +1 more source
Determination of coal burst risk zones using CT scanning of coal microstructure
The Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP) sponsored a research project (C28012 Extension) investigating the role of microfracture propagation contributing to the mechanism of gas related coal bursts. The research project used Computed Tomography (CT) scanning to identify microfracture networks and the spatial and statistic relationship ...Heritage, Yvette +3 more
