The development of specialised modular protective structure on continuous miners against coal burst hazards

International Journal of Protective Structures, 2022
As mining progresses into deep ore deposits in Australia, geo-hazards such as coal burst and outbursts are becoming a major concern for mine workers.

An overview of research into understanding coal burst

2019
Coal burst is a high safety and production risk in underground coal mines. It involves a sudden release of strain energy stored within the coal or rock mass due to the disturbance of an unstable state of equilibrium. To improve our understanding of coal burst, it is important to quantify the energy transition involved in this dynamic failure process ...

An Investigation on the Bursting Liability of Oxidized Coal and the Coupling Mechanism of Rock Burst and Spontaneous Combustion

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2021
After rock burst and spontaneous combustion, a coal seam is exposed, and this form of compound disaster shows new characteristics. Therefore, basic research on oxidized coal is important to the theoretical research and prevention of compound disasters.

Steady advance of coal and gas bursts

Acta Mechanica Sinica, 1988
This paper establishes a one-dimensional model to analyse the mechanism of coal and gas bursts. It is found that the intrinsic factor governing bursts is the coupling of the initiation of the moving of coal fragments with the gas seepage. A typical (strong) burst can be treated as a steady advance process.

Research on the relationship between coal burst tendency and rockburst risk of coal seam

Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2020
The burst tendency and the risk of rock burst are of great significance in the research of coal mine, which is the basis for the prediction and prevention of rock burst.

Extending Present Coal Reserves with Self-Bursting Coal Pellets: ABSTRACT

AAPG Bulletin, 1983
A new scheme is proposed which would extend our present reserves of coal by making use of what is now a waste product. End_Page 519------------------------------ Studies show that up to 25% of the volume of coal is lost as fine coal particles in the coal mining and handling process.

Determination of the possibility of rock burst in a coal seam

Journal of Applied and Industrial Mathematics, 2017
Summary: The article presents an algorithm for computing a quantity that serves as a criterion for the possibility of rock burst in a coal seam. We propose to study this quantity in two steps: in the first step, an inverse problem is solved to find the necessary quantities; while in the second step, we solve a boundary value problem for a biharmonic ...
