Evaluation of current coal burst control techniques and development of a coal burst management framework

Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology, 2018
Abstract Coal burst has been increasingly attracting attention in Australian coal mines recently as they go deeper. Coal burst is well known for its catastrophic destruction, complex mechanisms and difficulty of control in the mining industry. This paper summarises the control measures used globally for this dynamic failure, and shows how to develop ...

Fuzzy fault tree analysis for coal burst occurrence probability in underground coal mining

Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology, 2019
Abstract Coal burst is one of the hazardous events that mining engineers have been struggling with it since past decades. This phenomenon has sudden and violent nature and almost occurs without warning. In coal burst events, a high volume of coal pieces ejected violently into the working space.

Models of translatory rock bursting in coal

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1981
Abstract A model material and a model technique have been found which show, in laboratory tests, the typical features of translatory rock bursts (bumps) in coal mines. The qualitative observations made using the model, agree with theoretical predictions published earlier.

Bursting liability indices of coal

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1981
Abstract Natural coal's ability to store and release rapidly elastic strain energy seems to be a fundamental condition for the occurrence of rock-bursts in deep underground coal mines. In Upper Silesia where a number of existing mines work below a critical depth, several indices have been proposed and their numerical values found by experiment in ...

Investigation of coal burst characteristics under impact loading

International Journal of Oil, Gas and Coal Technology, 2018
Under condition of static loading, although the coal seams in some collieries were of weak burst proneness, still there were occurrences of coal bursts. This paper investigates the coal burst proneness under varying impact loading rates, peak impact loads and loading cycles in terms of four indices, i.e., Rc, DT, WET and KE.

Generation Mechanism of Coal Pillar Rock Burst

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011
Aiming at the problem of the isolated coal pillar occurring the rock burst easily and having no the occurrence and damage theory of the rock burst according with actual, it discusses the generation mechanism of tension rock burst of the isolated coal pillar, uses finite element software of the tension fracture to simulate the fracture and evolution ...

Extending Present Coal Reserves with Self-Bursting Coal Pellets: ABSTRACT

AAPG Bulletin, 1983
A new scheme is proposed which would extend our present reserves of coal by making use of what is now a waste product. End_Page 519------------------------------ Studies show that up to 25% of the volume of coal is lost as fine coal particles in the coal mining and handling process.
