Toward Decarbonization of the Titanium Industry via Hydrogen Plasma Smelting Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 1, 5 January 2026.
Hydrogen plasma smelting reduction enables direct, zero‐carbon conversion of low‐grade ilmenite into steel‐grade iron and a titania‐rich precursor for pigment production. The single‐step process merges smelting and refining, sharply lowers silica content, and offers a breakthrough path for sustainable, high‐value extraction from abundant mineral sands.

Research Status and Development Trend of Macromolecular Structure and Model Construction of Different Coals

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 21, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
ABSTRACT Coal is a natural macromolecular substance composed of complex organic molecules and a small amount of minerals. Its chemical composition and microstructure are highly complex and variable, and no unified definition exists. This inherent structural complexity underscores the theoretical significance of constructing accurate macromolecular ...

Mullite production by valorization of a hydrodesulphurization catalyst waste

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
Due to its high alumina and silica content, Ni–Mo catalyst waste is a suitable, amorphous raw material for producing aluminosilicate phases. Thermal treatment of the waste at 1200°C for 30 min yields a material containing 50 wt.% mullite and exhibiting 96% overall crystallinity. The addition of amorphous silica significantly enhances mullite formation:
