Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

On policy interactions among nations : when do cooperation and commitment matter ? [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper offers a framework to study commitment and cooperation issues in games with multiple policymakers. To reconcile some puzzles in the recent literature on the nature of policy interactions among nations, we prove that games characterized by ...

Climate and water policy integration in Brazil's semiarid region: insights from an ACF perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Climate change introduces an additional concern to the semi-arid Northeast Brazil region, which already faces water scarcity challenges. This study analyzes water use and climate adaptation strategies and policy integration in the Petrolina and Juazeiro ...

Coalitional Games with Overlapping Coalitions for Interference Management in Small Cell Networks

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper, we study the problem of cooperative interference management in an OFDMA two-tier small cell network. In particular, we propose a novel approach for allowing the small cells to cooperate, so as to optimize their sum-rate, while ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

An Imperfect Algorithm for Coalition Structure Generation

open access: yesProceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2019
Optimal Coalition Structure Generation (CSG) is a significant research problem that remains difficult to solve. Given n agents, the ODP-IP algorithm (Michalak et al. 2016) achieves the current lowest worst-case time complexity of O(3n). We devise an Imperfect Dynamic Programming (ImDP) algorithm for CSG with runtime O(n2n).

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Kenya's Fight Against Corruption: An Uneven Path to Political Accountability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Democratic elections in Kenya in 2002 were supposed to have heralded a period of intense political and economic reform. At the start of its term in office, the government of Mwai Kibaki did undertake a number of important reforms, including the creation ...
