Feature-Oriented Acoustic Tomography for Coastal Ocean Observatories

IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 2013
The deployment of coastal observatories motivates the development of acoustic inversion schemes able to characterize rapidly time-varying range-dependent environments. This paper develops feature models as parameterization schemes for the range-dependent temperature field, when the latter is mainly influenced by an identified oceanic feature, here ...

Mapping of a Typhoon-Driven Coastal Upwelling by Assimilating Coastal Acoustic Tomography Data

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 2017
AbstractA typhoon‐driven upwelling event was observed with coastal acoustic tomography in Hiroshima Bay during September 2013. The tomography data were used to obtain state estimates from an ocean model, employing the ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) for data assimilation.

Feature-oriented acoustic tomography of a coastal thermal front

OCEANS 2010 MTS/IEEE SEATTLE, 2010
The continuous monitoring of coastal processes presents a great interest both from the environmental and economic viewpoints. Passive acoustic tomography can be a good candidate to provide synoptic measurements over wide areas while a range-dependent inversion scheme allows to achieve a reasonable spatial resolution along each vertical slice section ...

Forward coupled‐mode propagation modeling for coastal acoustic tomography

Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1996
A coupled normal-mode approach for the prediction of pulse propagation in a complex coastal environment is presented. In this broadband approach, the received time-domain sound-pressure signal is generated by Fourier synthesis using the product of the source signal spectrum and the source-to-receiver ocean transfer function.
