Mapping Quartz and Feldspar Areal Abundance and Grain Sizes Using Integrated VTIR Data

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 7, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Mineral dust is sourced from arid regions around the globe, and its composition impacts regional and global environments by affecting radiation balance, cloud formation, nutrient deposition, and snowmelt. As such, mineral dust plays a key role in Earth's energy and biogeochemical budgets.

Significant Coastal Dune Loss Challenges California's Climate Resilience and Biodiversity Goals

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Coastal sand dunes support unique biodiversity and buffer beaches and communities against storm impacts. However, these sensitive and dynamic ecosystems are increasingly threatened by erosion, sea‐level rise (SLR), and encroaching coastal development.

A Review of Headland Overpassing in Headland-bay Beaches

open access: yesHaiyang Kaifa yu guanli
Starting from the concepts of headland-bay beach, headland dunefields and headland overpassing, this paper introduced the conceptual model of headland overpassing, summarized the commonly used research methods and research status of headland dune ...

Field Observations of Intermittent Cross‐Shore Bed Load Transport on a Low‐Energy Beach

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Low‐energy sandy beaches typically have a rippled bed, and the presence of bed forms can strongly affect net sediment transport rates under combined forcing of waves and currents. In case low‐energetic forcing is combined with coarse sediment, bed load transport is an important mechanism to understand transport processes on such beaches.

Grain Size Sorting and Steady Bars Formation in Straight Channels—Part 2: Linear Theory

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract This is the second of two papers aimed to investigate grain sorting patterns associated with the formation of steady alternate bars in gravel‐bed rivers. Part 1 presented the analysis of a series of tailored experiments, performed in a mobile bed laboratory flume with fixed, straight banks. The results showed that a consistent pattern of grain

Terrestrial Analogs to Titan for Geophysical Research

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 64, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract Saturn's moon Titan exhibits remarkable parallels to the Earth in many geophysical and geological processes not found elsewhere in the solar system at the present day. These include a nitrogen atmosphere with a condensible gas—methane—replacing the Earth's water, leading to an active meteorology with rainfall and surface manifestations ...

Mapping Disjuncture: Internationalism and Palestine

open access: yesArea, Volume 58, Issue 2, June 2026.
Short Abstract This paper reflects on a ‘Map Conversation’ session at the 2024 RGS‐IBG Annual Conference, that explored maps of the League of Nations and Palestine. The authors contrast maps promoting global consciousness in the 1920s with those charting colonial encroachment in Palestine.
