Abstract This study examined the spatiotemporal variability in geotechnical properties of beach cusp sediments on a sandy beach and tested if such variability can be used for cusp monitoring from satellite imagery. Specifically, sediment properties (including moisture content (w), relative density (Dr), sediment strength (QSBC) and friction angle (ϕ ...

Entrainment of Muddy Sediment From Immobile Gravel River Beds
Abstract This study examines the transport of fine muddy sediment through a gravel‐bed reach. In such cases, mud is often conceptualized as a size fraction that interacts little with the bed (i.e., as washload). However, previous studies have shown that mud can deposit within gravel beds.

Gully erosion in India: Geo‐environmental controls and region‐specific characteristics
Spatial statistical analyses using a novel spatial database of India‧s gully erosion landforms revealed that India has six major gullying‐affected regions, three of which (EU, DU, and KCH) are dominated by gully systems (gully networks), with badlands (vast intensely gullied landscapes) being predominant in the other three regions (YB, GP, and RU ...

An Overlooked Habitat‐Dependent Link Between Metabolism and Water Loss in Reptiles
We measured the gas exchange of six lizard and six snake species, under high and low air humidity, and two intriguing patterns emerged. First, although desert species lose less water via evaporation than similar‐sized mesic species under similar conditions, water loss is virtually the same when each is exposed to its natural conditions.

Inferences on Frog Responses to Forest Cover Depend on Sampling Method and Reproductive Mode
ABSTRACT Sampling choices can bias assessments of biodiversity responses to habitat loss, compromising conservation strategies in vulnerable ecosystems such as the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. We evaluated the efficiency of three frog sampling methods (active search, plot sampling, and pitfall traps) across Atlantic Forest remnants to estimate species ...
