Operational coastal ocean modelling for tidal stream turbine arrays

open access: yesApplied Ocean Research
Operational ocean models are widely applied for Earth and ocean observation for real-time predictions of ocean processes at large scales. Adaptations of these systems could cater more specific engineering and finer, metre-scale, applications.

Hydrogeochemical controls on brook trout spawning habitats in a coastal stream. [PDF]

open access: yesHydrol Earth Syst Sci, 2018
Abstract. Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) spawn in fall and overwintering egg development can benefit from stable, relatively warm temperatures in groundwater-seepage zones. However, eggs are also sensitive to dissolved oxygen concentration, which may be reduced in discharging groundwater (i.e., seepage). We investigated a 2 km reach of the coastal

Effects of chlorpyrifos on macroinvertebrate communities in coastal stream mesocosms [PDF]

open access: yesEcotoxicology, 2007
This study measured the effects of a single pulse of chlorpyrifos at nominal concentrations of 1 and 10 microg/l on the macroinvertebrate community structure of a coastal stream mesocosm system. Analysis of data using Principal Response Curves (PRC) and Monte Carlo tests showed significant changes in the treated stream mesocosms relative to that of the

Shallow Groundwater Mercury Supply in a Coastal Plain Stream

open access: yesEnvironmental Science & Technology, 2012
Fluvial methylmercury (MeHg) is attributed to methylation in up-gradient wetland areas. This hypothesis depends on efficient wetland-to-stream hydraulic transport under nonflood and flood conditions. Fluxes of water and dissolved (filtered) mercury (Hg) species (FMeHg and total Hg (FTHg)) were quantified in April and July of 2009 in a reach at McTier ...

Features of morphology and hydrology for spawning rivers at the northwestern coast of the Okhotsk Sea

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2014
At the northwestern coast of the Okhotsk Sea, pink salmon finds its spawning grounds both in big rivers (Uda, Okhota, and some other) and small streams because the size, slopes, and structure of alluvial sediments of the majority of local water bodies ...

Diet of Lontra longicaudis (Olfers, 1818) (Carnivora: Mustelidae) in three limnic systems in Southern Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2012
The aim of the present work was to study the diet of Lontra longicaudis in three limnic systems (anthropogenic shallow lakes, pluvial channel and coastal stream) in Rio Grande do Sul State coastal plain, southern Brazil.

Reproductive biology of a tetragonopterinae (osteichthyes, characidae) of the Ubatiba fluvial system, Maricá - RJ

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 1999
Aspects of the reproductive biology of one Tetragonopterinae was assessed in the Ubatiba river - Maricá / RJ. Length structure and mean size suggested sexual dimorphism, females reaching larger sizes than males.

Green Leaf Decomposition in Coastal Plain Streams

open access: yesJournal of Freshwater Ecology, 1986
ABSTRACT Decomposition of green Acer rubrum leaves was examined in a disturbed and an undisturbed stream. Decomposition rates were not significantly different between the two streams. There was no apparent pattern of invertebrate colonization, and leaf packs in the two streams were similar in invertebrate density.
