Vulnerability to coastal cholera ecology

Social Science & Medicine, 2003
The battle to completely control cholera continues. Multiple strains, high levels of morbidity in some regions of the world, and a complex of influences on its distribution in people and the environment are accompanied by only rough resolution prediction of outbreaks.

Counting the cost of coastal vulnerability

Ocean and Coastal Management, 2016
Abstract Significant coastal vulnerability (CV) in the United Kingdom (UK) endangers the population and the infrastructure and distorts the national economy, yet present and proposed literature only quotes previous circumstances that failed to deliver factual fiscal assessment.

Climate Change and Coastal Vulnerability

2021
Abstract The convergence of geophysical and economic forces that continuously influence environmental quality in the coastal zone presents a grand challenge for resource and environmental economists. To inform climate adaptation policy and identify pathways to sustainability, economists must draw from different lines of inquiry ...

Vulnerability Indicators for Coastal Dunes

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 2003
This paper describes the development of a new parameter to characterize dune vulnerability to storm-induced erosion. Existing indicators of dune erosion vulnerability are examined, including expected cross-sectional erosion values calculated using storm characteristics.

Vulnerability of Coastal Populations

2012
Climate change is a major threat to coastal populations around the world. This chapter starts by briefly describing the main effects of global climate change on coastal areas, such as the risk of flooding, the permanent inundation of inhabited areas, and salinisation of coastal groundwater resources.

Assessment of Coastal Vulnerability

Coastal regions are increasingly vulnerable to natural hazards, particularly due to climate change, sea-level rise, and human activities. In this context, the present study calculates the Coastal Vulnerability Index(CVI) and develops it into a risk map for the Chennai coastline, which is vulnerable to coastal erosion, flooding, and storm surges.

Coastal Vulnerability: Hazards and Strategies

1996
The change in sea level at any location represents the combination of global sea-level change (e.g., due global warming) and local/regional sea-level change due to subsidence or uplift. Because of the wide variations in the latter component, the rate of future sea-level rise and its implications must be assessed separately for each coastal zone.

Assessment of the Ivorian Coastal Vulnerability

Journal of Coastal Research, 2016
ABSTRACT Tano, R.A.; Aman, A.; Kouadio, K.Y.; Toualy, E.; Ali, K.E., and Assamoi, P., 2016. Assessment of the Ivorian coastal vulnerability. Climate change and variability of associated factor, such as sea-level rise, could increase exposure of the Gulf of Guinea coastal area to coastal erosion and inundation.
