Design and Control of a Novel Coaxial Tilt-Rotor UAV
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2022In this paper, the design and control of a new coaxial tilt-rotor (CTR) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) are presented. The CTRUAV is an electric-powered UAV with a special configuration, which is composed of two pairs of tiltable coaxial rotors and a rear rotor.

Research on the Influence of Coaxial Rotor Configuration on the Propulsion of Multi-Rotor UAVs
2018 IEEE 13th Annual International Conference on Nano/Micro Engineered and Molecular Systems (NEMS), 2018In this paper, An experimental device for testing a coaxial rotor system was developed and a series related test experiments were carried out. The experimental device utilizes the principle of leverage to collect the propulsion generated by the rotor system by a force sensor.

Aeromechanical Loads on a Mars Coaxial Rotor
Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 74th Annual Forum, 2018A detailed aeromechanical understanding of a coaxial rotor flying on Mars is presented using a combination of vacuum chamber tests and free-wake based comprehensive analysis. The objectives are to understand the limits of performance, structural loads, control loads (pitch link), wake interaction, and blade strike for hingeless and articulated ...

Hover Performance of Corotating and Counterrotating Coaxial Rotors
Journal of the American Helicopter Society, 2020Hover testing was performed on a 2-m-diameter coaxial corotating (stacked) rotor system to investigate the effect of azimuthal spacing, or index angle, on performance. Individual rotor thrust and power measurements were performed as a function of the index angles.

A Coaxial Magnetic Gear With Consequent-Pole Rotors
IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 2017In this paper, a novel coaxial magnetic gear (MG) is proposed, in which both permanent magnet and consequent poles are employed on the inner and outer rotors. The MG is expected with improved torque transmission capability by increasing the effective magnetic flux and offering additional reluctance torque.

Stability and Control of a Coaxial Quadcopter with Rotor-On-Rotor Interactional Aerodynamics
Journal of the American Helicopter SocietyThis article focuses on the integration of generalized rotor-on-rotor interactional aerodynamics models in state-variable form within flight dynamics simulations of multi-rotor unmanned aircraft systems, and on their subsequent linearization. The aircraft chosen for this investigation is a resupply coaxial quadcopter.

Induced Flow in Coaxial Rotor Systems
2020In coaxial rotor helicopter systems, both rotors of the helicopter spin in opposite directions on the same vertical axis, requiring the bottom rotor to spin faster with a higher blade pitch angle and the top rotor to spin slower with a lower blade pitch angle. This was proven by Peters and Seidel [1].

Design and dynamic modelling of a coaxial-rotor system
2016 8th International Conference on Modelling, Identification and Control (ICMIC), 2016Coaxial-rotor configuration with the compact structure and vertical take-off ability make itself a good configuration to execute highly difficult task. In this paper, the structural design of coaxial-rotor system is introduced, and we discuss the control principle behind coaxial configuration.

Performance of Coaxial Propulsion in Design of Multi-rotor UAVs
2016There are many different types of propulsion systems developed for multi rotor UAVs. One of the most interesting designs is so called X8 quadrocopter, which extends original quadrotor concept to 8 motors, arranged in 4 coaxial pairs. The advantage of this solution is increased lift of platform, with reasonable volume of platform kept.
