The gamma spectrum from Cobalt 60 decay has been investigated with a 40 cc Ge(Li) detector. A peak at 822 keV is shown to be not a gamma transition but a single escape peak and an upper limit of 10 is given to the branching ratio of the 2158 keV level.

Cobalt-60 in Management of Cancer
JAMA, 1963Cobalt-60 units supply gamma radiation of two monochromatic wavelengths (1.17 and 1.33 mev), and the soft beta radiation is easily filtered out by approximately 0.16 mm of steel. Such units therefore have made possible the world-wide use of the equivalent of supervoltage roentgentherapy.

Cobalt-60 Treatment of Choroidal Hemangiomas
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1996We investigated the therapeutic possibilities of gamma brachytherapy to improve the final functional results of eyes with choroidal hemangiomas, which are benign vascular tumors that can induce progressive impairment of visual acuity. We treated 41 patients with choroidal hemangioma with cobalt-60 applicators.

Sterilization of Selected Colorants by Cobalt-60
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1974A series of selected colorants composed of eight FD&C dyes, seven FD&C lakes, and four D&C dyes were subjected to 2.5 Mrads of γ-irradiation from a cobalt-60 source over approximately 10 hr. The soluble colorants so irradiated exhibited no changes when examined by visible, UV, and IR spectrophotometry, nor did they show any measurable radioactivity ...

Cobalt-60 Teletherapy of Pituitary Adenomas
Radiology, 1971Abstract The authors administered 60CO radiotherapy in 42 of 51 patients with pituitary adenoma, with or without surgery. An 88% improvement rate in visual fields was noted overall, 80% with irradiation alone. An overall control rate of 90% was obtained, 85% by irradiation alone. There were no serious complications. The use of supervoltage treatment as

Characteristics of cobalt‐60 penumbral regions
Medical Physics, 1985Ionization chambers with wall materials of various electron densities have been employed to investigate the penumbral region of a cobalt‐60 beam of side length 10 cm. Measurements were made in air with chambers of various inside diameters. The homogeneous walls of the ionization chambers were 0.5 g/cm2 in thickness.

The MDAH/ORINS group was not the only one working on a cobalt-60 therapy unit, and the other groups are briefly described in this chapter; there were two in Canada and one in Los Angeles. Because of this, priority claims concerning the development of the cobalt-60 unit have always existed.

Slide Rule Nomograms for Cobalt 60
The British Journal of Radiology, 1955Nomograms, a means of rapidly and simply obtaining numerical values, with an accuracy of about 3 per cent or better, have found a variety of uses in radiotherapy (Wolf, 1944; Osborn, 1945). The use of simple nomograms in problems involving 60Co sources—either in teletherapy, or for local application—is complicated by the decay of the source.

Although the notebook contained very little about cobalt-60 because it appears that Grimmett had a separate notebook for cobalt-60, what is in the notebook about cobalt-60 is of interest and is described in this chapter. He investigated the transmission characteristics of cobalt-60 γ-rays for various materials.
