Evaluation of the Sorption Properties of Diatomite for Capture of Radioactive Barium, Cobalt, and Zinc

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Sorption is a well‐known method for radionuclide removal, but the high cost of synthetic sorbents constrains its application. This study investigates the potential of locally sourced diatomite from Kariandusi, Kenya, as a cost‐effective sorbent for capturing barium (Ba), cobalt (Co) and zinc (Zn) from radioactive liquid waste.

Petrography of phosphates in CI and CY carbonaceous chondrites

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 60, Issue 11, Page 2594-2622, November 2025.
Abstract Phosphate minerals are significant carriers of volatiles (e.g., OH) and halogens in chondritic material; however, their origin in most groups of carbonaceous chondrites remains poorly characterized. We have determined the abundance, morphology, texture, and composition of phosphate grains in aqueously altered CI chondrites and in hydrated and ...

Dreams and needs : the applications of isotopes to industry in Spain in the 1960s [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The efforts to change the bleak image of the atom bomb galvanised the discourse on the peaceful applications of nuclear energy. This contributed to a utopian vision of nuclear energy, especially of the uses of radioactive isotopes in the immediate post ...

Evaluation of Mortality Risk Factors in Prostate Cancer: Impact of Demographic, Clinical, Laboratory, Therapeutic, and Trace Element Influences

open access: yesCancer Reports, Volume 8, Issue 3, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Prostate cancer (PCa) is a significant contributor to male mortality globally, including in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Various factors play a role in its onset and progression. The impact of trace elements and other risk factors on the survival of PCa patients is not extensively studied in this setting.
