Studies were conducted in the laboratory of Entomology, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, BHU, Varanasi to determine the effect of different prey (aphid) densities (functional response) of second, third, fourth instars of grub and adult of two important aphidophagous coccinellids, Coccinella septempunctata (L.) and Coccinella transversalis (Fabr.) i ...

The biology and predatory potential of Coccinella septempunctata and C. transversalis feeding on Lipaphis erysimiin the mustard ecosystem has been studied. The biology of C. transversalis showed that egg, larval, pupal, adult male and female periods were 2.70± 0.766, 12.68± 1.633, 2.62± 0.696, 30.12± 4.492 and 33.88± 2.566, respectively while that of C.

Egg production in response to combined alternative foods by the predator Coccinella transversalis
Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 2000AbstractInsect predators may commit to reproduction to varying degrees depending on the nature of the prey they consume. I compared egg production by females of the aphidophagous ladybird beetle Coccinella transversalis (F.) (Coccinellidae) maintained on differing diets. As expected, females laid most eggs on a diet of aphids (pea aphids, Acyrthosiphon

Abstract Reproductive behaviour of two aphidophagous ladybeetles, Cheilomenes sexmaculata and Coccinella transversalis was studied. A premating period of 5.0±0.5 and 11.7±0.4 days and a pre‐oviposition period of 5.5±0.7 and 12.7±0.5 days was observed for C. sexmaculata and C. transversalis, respectively.

Abstract:Six aphid species, viz. Aphis craccivora, Aphis gossypii, Aphis nerii, Myzus persicae, Lipaphis erysimi and Uroleucon compositae were provided as prey to the feeding stages of Coccinella transversalis (Fabricius). All of them were found to be essential prey, however the relative prey suitability varied.

The searching behaviour of two coccinellid predators, Coccinella transversalis Fab. and Cheilomenes (Menochilus) sexmaculatus Fab. at different hunger levels and larval stage was studied on eggplant infested with Aphis gossypii Glov. Females of both predators required more prey to return to a state of complete satiation.

Abstract: The role of surface chemicals in egg cannibalism and intraguild predation by neonates of two aphidophagous ladybirds, Propylea dissecta and Coccinella transversalis were examined. Neonates of both species prefer to eat non‐sibling conspecific eggs than heterospecific eggs, with higher preference in P. dissecta.

AbstractThe impacts of six selective insecticides on three predatory insect species, Tasman's lacewing (Micromus tasmaniae), the transverse ladybird (Coccinella transversalis) and the damsel bug (Nabis kinbergii), were tested by acute and long‐term bioassay. Acute bioassays measured mortality 72 h after exposure to wet sprays and dry residues, and long‐

During 1992–4, square (30 times 30 cm) sticky traps of various colours were used on a commercial cotton farm to trap adults of Coccinella transversalis and Adalia bipunctata which are both major predators of Helicoverpa spp. Both insects were attracted most to yellow traps which also reflected the most visible light between 500 nmand 600 nm(where green
