Oviposition-deterring effects of conspecific and heterospecific larval tracks on Cheilomenes sexmaculata (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2006
The oviposition deterring effects of fresh larval tracks of Cheilomenes sexmaculata (F.), Ceratomegilla undecimnotata (Schneider), Cycloneda limbifer Casey, and Harmonia dimidiata (F.) on C. sexmaculata females were compared in standard laboratory choice

The effect of climate change on an aphid–coccinellid interaction

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, 1997
A model (Carter et al. 1982) that described the population dynamics of Sitobion avenae was modified and extended to include the population dynamics of the aphidophagous coccinellid, Coccinella septempunctata. The model was run under three different temperature regimes, corresponding to different degrees of warmth in typical English summers, and, in ...

Peer review of the pesticide risk assessment of the active substance Beauveria bassiana strain R444

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract The conclusions of the EFSA following the peer review of the initial risk assessments carried out by the competent authority of the rapporteur Member State, Denmark, for the pesticide active substance Beauveria bassiana strain R444 and the considerations as regards the inclusion of the substance in Annex IV of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 are ...

Spiny Prey, Fortunate Prey. Dorsal Spines Are an Asset in Intraguild Interactions among Lady Beetles

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2017
The Multicolored Asian Ladybird, Harmonia axyridis, is an extremely successful invasive species. Here we suggest that, in addition to many other traits, the dorsal spines of its larvae contribute to their success, as suggested by behavioral observations ...

Prey Range and Voracity of Main Insect Natural Enemies of Pests in Corsican Clementine Orchards

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 8, Page 851-862, August 2026.
To assess the biocontrol potential on the main arthropod pests of clementine orchards in Corsica, laboratory experiments were carried out using five potential predators. Their prey range and voracity were tested on three pest species. Then, a global predation rate index was calculated at the scale of the entire community of insect predators.

Mutualistic relationships between the shield ant, Meranoplus bicolor (Guérin–Méneville) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) and honeydew–producing hemipterans in guava plantation

open access: yesSociobiology, 2014
– Mutualistic relationship between the shield ant, Meranoplus bicolor (Guérin–Méneville), and two species of hemipteran, Aphis gossypii Glover and Ferrisia virgata (Cockerell), was investigated in an unsprayed guava plot at Kamphaeng Saen, Nakhon Pathom,

Community science data suggests that urbanization and forest habitat loss threaten aphidophagous native lady beetles

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2021
Community scientists have illustrated rapid declines of several aphidophagous lady beetle (Coccinellidae) species. These declines coincide with the establishment of alien coccinellids.

Impacts of a Sweet Orange Essential Oil–Based Biopesticide on Exorista larvarum, a Parasitoid Tachinid Fly With a Dual Role

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 8, Page 933-941, August 2026.
Lethal (mortality) and sublethal (fecundity, fertility) effects of the biopesticide Prev‐Am Plus (containing ~6% sweet orange essential oil) were assessed on the tachinid fly Exorista larvarum. Mated females were exposed via contact and oral routes across five concentrations (0.25%–20%) using protocols adapted from Apis mellifera.
