Patency of the cochlear aqueduct in Menière’s disease

2013
Introduction: The cochlear aqueduct (CA) plays an important role in the hydrostatic inner ear pressure regulation. Its function can be impaired in inner ear pressure disorders such as in Menière’s disease. Due to its narrow diameter the patency of CA in patients with Menière’s[for full text, please go to the a.m. URL]

Anatomic Variations of the Human Cochlear Aqueduct

Acta Radiologica. Diagnosis, 1986
The cochlear aqueduct follows a course through the petrous pyramid that varies from straight and steeply vertical to a curvilinear and horizontal. Its course and length are correlated to the pneumatization of the pyramid and also to the volume of the jugular fossa.

Enlarged cochlear aqueduct.

AJNR. American journal of neuroradiology, 1998
Enlargement of the cochlear aqueduct is a controversial topic, with experienced investigators doubting its existence because of a lack of published cases. We describe the CT appearance of an enlarged cochlear aqueduct in a patient with advanced congenital inner ear anomalies and congenital hearing loss.

Arachnoid Villi Obstruction in the Cochlear Aqueduct

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1972
Temporal bone findings suggest mechanical obstruction of arachnoid villi by focal hemorrhage within the cochlear aqueduct midportion. Increased perilymphatic fluid pressure was evidenced by fluid "backing up" through soft tissue about the cochlear aqueduct, and reaching the internal auditory canal.

Micro-CT study of the human cochlear aqueduct

Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 2018
The anatomic structure of the cochlear aqueduct (CA) in human temporal bone specimens was observed using micro-computed tomography (CT).Micro-CT scanning of 18-µm-thick slices was performed on 30 slides of human temporal bone specimens to observe the CA structure and its relationship with its surroundings.

Human Cochlear Aqueduct and its Accessory Canals

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1977
The anatomy of the adult human cochlear aqueduct and its surrounding structures, and their normal variations at tomography, microdissection and plastic molding are described. The mean length of the aqueduct is 12.9 mm and the mean width of its funnel-shaped external aperture 4.2 mm. The mean width of the narrowest portion is 0.14 mm.

[Cochlear aqueduct].

Zhonghua er bi yan hou ke za zhi, 1991
The morphology and structure within the cochlear aqueduct have been investigated on the basis of a histological analysis of 234 temporal bones ranging from 12-week old to adult. Barrier membrane was found in 28.6% of the temporal bones examined, and fibrous reticular tissues of the inner opening of the cochlear aqueduct in 38.1% of the temporal bones ...

Morphology and cochlear implantation in enlarged vestibular aqueduct

American Journal of Otolaryngology, 2018
The purpose of this work is to explore audiometry following cochlear implantation (CI) in patients with enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA) and to investigate the effects of inner ear morphological variation on post CI audiometry. This was a retrospective review of both natural and cochlear-implant-aided audiometry results, using all available ...

Delayed Hereditary Deafness With Cochlear Aqueduct Obstruction

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1969
IT IS often impossible to differentiate between secondary, acquired degenerative inner ear changes and the degenerative changes occurring on a genetic basis. Only recently has the presence of PAS-positive globules been noted in some cases of hereditary deafness and not, as yet, in acquired deafness. The onset of hereditary deafness is often within the
