Distribution of Voltage‐Gated Sodium Channels and Scaffolding Proteins on Vestibular Calyx Ending Delineates the Axon Initial Segment

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 534, Issue 2, February 2026.
Various sodium channel isoforms and their scaffolding proteins are found in four different microdomains in vestibular calyx‐bearing afferents. These microdomains serve different purposes, analogous to the heminode, axon initial segment, and synaptic domains of other types of sensory afferents.

MRI and Implant Safety at Low‐Field and Ultralow‐Field Strengths

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Volume 63, Issue 2, Page 364-377, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Despite its unequivocal value in radiological diagnosis, access to conventional high‐field MRI systems remains extremely uneven across the world. Access is particularly limited in underfunded and remote settings, due to the high cost and infrastructure requirements of MRI systems.

Frailty, Surgical Time, and Surgical Complications Increase Length of Stay Following Large Vestibular Schwannoma Resection

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, Volume 174, Issue 2, Page 495-502, February 2026.
Abstract Objective Patients with large vestibular schwannomas (VS) are at higher risk for adverse outcomes following microsurgical resection. This study aims to identify clinical and radiographic factors that may be predictive of adverse outcomes. Study Design Retrospective chart review. Setting Academic tertiary care center.

Auditory Preservation in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma: Comparison of Proton and Photon Radiotherapy

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, Volume 174, Issue 2, Page 450-457, February 2026.
Abstract Objective To compare cochlear dose and hearing outcomes between intensity‐modulated proton therapy (IMPT) and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Study Design Prospective matched cohorts. Setting Tertiary academic center.
