Identification of a Novel Picorna-like Virus in Coconut Rhinoceros Beetles ( Oryctes rhinoceros ) [PDF]

open access: yesVirus Research, 2020
Abstract A novel Picorna-like virus, tentatively named Oryctes rhinoceros Picorna-like virus 1 (OrPV1), was identified in coconut rhinoceros beetle ( Oryctes rhinoceros ) larvae in Taiwan. The complete genome sequence consisted of 9,665 nucleotides with a polyA tail and included one

Assessment of bio-formulations of indigenous strains of Bacillus thuringiensis, Metarhizium robertsii and Metarhizium majus for management of the rhinoceros beetle, Oryctes rhinoceros L., in field

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Biological Pest Control, 2023
Background Among all the coconut pests, rhinoceros beetle causes acute and serious damage to coconut palm. Management of this pest is very difficult due to its nocturnal activity, and also, it damages the emerging leaf inside the bud.

Aggregation pheromone of coconut rhinoceros beetle,Oryctes rhinoceros (L.) (coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Ecology, 1995
Male coconut rhinoceros beetles,Oryctes rhinoceros (L.), produce three sex-specific compounds, ethyl 4-methyloctanoate, ethyl 4-methylheptanoate, and 4-methyloctanoic acid, the first of which is an aggregation pheromone. Synthesis of these compounds involving conjugate addition of organocuprates to ethyl acrylate is reported.

Assessment of coconut palm damage caused by coconut rhinoceros beetle, Oryctes rhinoceros (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae)

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Crop and Horticultural Science, 2023
ABSTRACT Coconut production in the Pacific Islands is threatened by coconut rhinoceros beetle (CRB). Distinctive feeding damage caused by adults is often the first indicator of CRB activity in a new location. Multiple approaches to damage assessment have been used, reflecting observers’ experience. The lack of standardisation makes it
