The coconut (Cocos nucifera L., family Arecaceae) is an important fruit tree in the world. Copra, the dried kernel, is mainly used for oil extraction. Coconut oil is one of the most important edible oils for domestic use. The oil is rich in medium chain fatty acids (MCFA) and exhibits good digestibility.

Coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) (Arecaceae) is ubiquitous in the tropics. In line with its intended use, this plant is given names such as "tree of heaven" and "tree of life". Coconut haustorium, which is rich in nutrients, has a nutritional composition of approximately 66% carbohydrates. Approximately 66% of the composition consists of carbohydrates, of

Somatic Embryogenesis in Cocos nucifera L.
2016In our coconut laboratory micropropagation has been the subject of research for nearly three decades, as this plant species is highly recalcitrant for in vitro regeneration and so far only achieved through somatic embryogenesis as the sole path for coconut regeneration.

Coconut (Cocos nucifera L.): Micropropagation
1990Despite the increasing production of soybean and palm oils over the last two decades, coconut oil remains an important product on the world market as it is one of only two commercial sources of short-chain fatty acids with 8–14 carbon atoms. Coconut oil is thus in direct competition with only one other such source, that being palm kernel oil.
