Making the Case for Organ‐on‐Chip Platforms in Long‐Acting Therapeutics Development
LATs release drug from a tissue‐resident depot over weeks to months, improving adherence, but their development is hampered by preclinical models that cannot reproduce the coupled tissue processes, sustained release, local microenvironment change, interstitial transport, immune and foreign‐body responses, and clearance that govern depot performance in ...

Many mutualistic microbial relationships are based on nutrient cross-feeding. Traditionally, cross-feeding is viewed as being unidirectional, from the producer to the recipient. This is likely true when a producer’s waste, such as a fermentation product,

Chemical Strategies for Multistimuli Responsive Dynamic Covalent Materials in Regenerative Medicine
Multistimuli responsive dynamic covalent materials integrate reversible chemistry with the complex chemical, mechanical, and biochemical cues of regenerative environments. This review highlights chemical strategies based on orthogonal dynamic bonds, multicomponent networks, and hierarchical architectures to regulate mechanics, degradation, and ...

Virophages of Giant Viruses: An Update at Eleven
The last decade has been marked by two eminent discoveries that have changed our perception of the virology field: The discovery of giant viruses and a distinct new class of viral agents that parasitize their viral factories, the virophages.

Syntrophic Degradation of Cadaverine by a Defined Methanogenic Coculture [PDF]
ABSTRACT A novel, strictly anaerobic, cadaverine-oxidizing, defined coculture was isolated from an anoxic freshwater sediment sample. The coculture oxidized cadaverine (1,5-diaminopentane) with sulfate as the electron acceptor. The sulfate-reducing partner could be replaced by a hydrogenotrophic methanogenic partner.

Living donor heart valves offer superior durability for pediatric patients but trigger immune rejection. Lentiviral delivery of viral immune‐evasion genes US2 and Serpin b9 into donor valve cells and valve tissue suppresses HLA expression, reduces PBMC clustering and cytotoxic killing, and induces transcriptional immune‐tolerance programs, paving the ...

Hydrogel‐Based Airway‐on‐Tube With Perfusable Endothelial Lumen and Outward Epithelialization
A hydrogel‐based airway‐on‐tube platform featuring a perfusable endothelial lumen and outward epithelialization is presented. The system supports primary human bronchial epithelial and lung microvascular endothelial coculture under air‐liquid interface conditions.
