Unraveling the epigenetic code in cancer cell–tumor microenvironment crosstalk

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Epigenetic regulation is a key driver of cancer development and progression. Diverse epigenetic alterations in cancer cells and components of the tumor microenvironment (TME) orchestrate their communication through multiple mechanisms. We discuss how the epigenetic code coordinates bidirectional cancer cell–TME crosstalk to promote cancer progression ...

Fermentation of Wheat Bran and Whey Permeate by Mono-Cultures of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus Strains and Co-culture With Yeast Enhances Bioactive Properties

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2020
The aim of this work was to obtain a bioingredient (BI) with bioactive properties through the solid fermentation of a wheat bran-whey permeate (WB/WP) mixture with three strains of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus (R0011, ATCC 9595, and RW-9595M) in mono or ...

Embryo coculture: A review

open access: yesJournal of Epidemiological Research, 2015
Since the inception of in-vitro fertilization, various attempts have been made to improve in-vitro embryo development, therebyenhancing implantation and in turn, pregnancy rates. Coculture, the simultaneous culture of somatic cells together with theembryo, is one strategy that has been used to achieve this goal.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

A Promising New Model: Establishment of Patient‐Derived Organoid Models Covering HPV‐Related Cervical Pre‐Cancerous Lesions and Their Cancers

open access: yesAdvanced Science
The lack of human‐derived in vitro models that recapitulate cervical pre‐cancerous lesions has been the bottleneck in researching human papillomavirus (HPV) infection‐associated pre‐cancerous lesions and cancers for a long time.

GelMA‐based 3D spheroids recapitulate transcriptomic and functional hallmarks of myeloid sarcoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
GelMA 5% hydrogels support the formation of myeloid leukemia spheroids that recapitulate MS‐specific features, including G1 arrest, apoptosis, and ECM‐driven transcriptomic reprogramming. The 3D model mimicked soft‐tissue‐like stiffness and oxygen conditions, and transcriptomic convergence with primary MS samples confirmed its utility as a preclinical ...

Induction of the differentiation of porcine bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into premature hepatocyte-like cells in an indirect coculture system with primary hepatocytes

open access: yesAnimal Cells and Systems, 2020
Liver transplantation is currently the only option for patients with end-stage liver disease. Thus, other alternate therapeutic strategies are needed.

ATP‐Mediated Bidirectional Communication Between Natural and Artificial Cells for Controlled Bioreactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Establishment of bidirectional communication behavior between natural and artificial cells. The first type of communication from natural dendritic cells to artificial polymeric cells was achieved via ATP release after cell lysis. The released ATP was taken up via gated UV‐controlled permeability increase of the polymeric membrane for performing ...
