East Australian Current System: Frontal Barrier and Fine‐Scale Control of Chlorophyll‐a Distribution

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 129, Issue 3, March 2024.
Abstract The East Australian Current (EAC), as the western boundary current of the South Pacific Gyre, governs the mesoscale circulation dynamics along the East Coast of Australia. It also exhibits meandering and instabilities that generate fine‐scale structures.

Forecasting of Surface Currents via Correcting Wind Stress with Assimilation of High‐Frequency Radar Data in a Three‐Dimensional Model

open access: yesAdvances in Meteorology, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
This paper details work in assessing the capability of a hydrodynamic model to forecast surface currents and in applying data assimilation techniques to improve model forecasts. A three‐dimensional model Environment Fluid Dynamics Code (EFDC) was forced with tidal boundary data and onshore wind data, and so forth.

Personalizing HIV therapy, mission impossible? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Sustained HIV suppression depends on a number of factors including therapy adherence, management of side effects, viral resistance and individual characteristics of patients and therapeutic settings.

Wave Observations from Central California: SeaSonde Systems and In Situ Wave Buoys

open access: yesJournal of Sensors, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
Wave data from five 12‐13 MHz SeaSondes radars along the central California coast were analyzed to evaluate the utility of operational wave parameters, including significant wave height, period, and direction. Data from four in situ wave buoys served to verify SeaSonde data and independently corroborate wave variability.

Do oil and gas platforms off California reduce recruitment of bocaccio (Sebastes paucispinis) to natural habitat? An analysis based on trajectories derived from high-frequency radar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
To investigate the possibility that oil and gas platforms may reduce recruitment of rockfishes (Sebastes spp.) to natural habitat, we simulated drift pathways termed “trajectories” in our model) from an existing oil platform to nearshore habitat using ...
