Noncoherent-coded modulation constructed from conventional trellis-coded modulation

IEEE Communications Letters, 1998
We propose a method to construct noncoherent-coded modulation (NCM) by modifying the conventional trellis-coded modulation (TCM) as proposed by Ungerboeck (1982). The error performance of the modified TCM using noncoherent decoding can approach that of the conventional TCM using coherent decoding for additive white Gaussian noise.

Product coded modulation

Proceedings of GLOBECOM '93. IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 1997
Summary: This letter presents a technique of combining multilevel coded modulation and product coding to form product modulation codes which achieve low bit error rates with reduced decoding complexity. Three multistage decoding algorithms are presented, and good codes for both the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and Rayleigh fading channels have ...

eIRA Codes for Coded Modulation Systems

2006 IEEE International Conference on Communications, 2006
In this paper we discuss the design of linear time encodable extended irregular repeat-accumulate (eIRA) codes for bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) systems. We interpret eIRA codes as a particular instance of the recently introduced multi-edge type (MET) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. This allows us to take into account during the design

On punctured trellis-coded modulation

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1996
Summary: Punctured convolutional codes result in some savings in the complexity of Viterbi decoders, compared to other codes of the same rate. However, in general use of the punctured structure in the decoder results in a performance loss for trellis codes, due to difficulties in assigning metrics.

Two-dimensional modulation codes

IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 1992
A new class of run-length-limited codes in introduced. These codes are called two-dimensional or multitrack modulation codes. Two-dimensional modulation codes provide substantial data storage density increases for multitrack recording systems by operating on multiple tracks in parallel. Procedures for computing the capacity of these new codes are given

Combination of block-coded modulation and trellis-coded modulation

IEE Proceedings I Communications, Speech and Vision, 1991
It is known that trellis-coded modulation (TCM) can give a significant coding gain without compromising bandwidth efficiency, by the concepts of signal set partition and trellis coding scheme. It is also known that block-coded modulation (BCM) can be used to approach closely the maximum energy saving that can be obtained by using the densest lattice ...

Adaptive Modulation and Coding Schemes Based on LDPC Codes with Irregular Modulation

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2010
In this paper we propose an adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme which uses only a single low-density parity-check (LDPC) encoder/decoder with irregular modulation. Two Gray-mapped quadrature-amplitude modulations are employed within a codeword so that the transmission rates of the proposed AMC can be controlled even though the rate of the ...

A noncoherent coded modulation for 16QAM

MILCOM 1999. IEEE Military Communications. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.99CH36341), 1999
Summary: We present a noncoherent coded 16QAM (NC-16QAM) scheme by modifying the trellis-coded 16QAM (TC-16QAM) scheme. Our simulation results show that the performance of the NC-16QAM with noncoherent detection is close to the one of the original TC-16QAM with coherent detection.

Coded Modulation Using Superimposed Binary Codes

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2004
In this correspondence, we investigate in a comprehensive fashion a one-layer coding/shaping scheme resembling a perfectly cooperated multiple-access system. At the transmitter, binary data are encoded by either single-level or multilevel codes. The coded bits are first randomly interleaved and then entered into a signal mapper.
