Improving soft FEC performance for higher-order modulations via optimized bit channel mappings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Soft forward error correction with higher-order modulations is often implemented in practice via the pragmatic bit-interleaved coded modulation paradigm, where a single binary code is mapped to a nonbinary modulation.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Nonbinary LDPC-Coded Mode-Multiplexed Coherent Optical OFDM 1.28-Tbit/s 16-QAM Signal Transmission Over 2000 km of Few-Mode Fibers With Mode-Dependent Loss

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
We demonstrate the possibility of nonbinary LDPC-coded mode-multiplexed coherent optical OFDM 1.28-Tbit/s 16-QAM signal transmission over 2000 km of few-mode fiber (FMF) with mode-dependent loss (MDL) by using an advanced mode-coupling compensation ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Robust Reed Solomon Coded MPSK Modulation

open access: yesJournal of ICT Research and Applications, 2014
In this paper, construction of partitioned Reed Solomon coded modulation (RSCM), which is robust for the additive white Gaussian noise channel and a Rayleigh fading channel, is investigated.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Space-Time Turbo Coded Modulation: Design and Applications

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2002
A design method for recursive space-time trellis codes and parallel-concatenated space-time turbo coded modulation is proposed that can be applied to an arbitrary existing space-time trellis code.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
